The Role:
The Head of English (Years 9-12) is a key teaching and learning leadership position responsible for leading the English Faculty across Years 9-12.
This role builds the capacity of teachers to design and deliver high-quality curriculum, learning and assessment aligned with the College's Education Blueprint, Learning That Matters framework and Instructional Model.
The role leads faculty staff through a strong focus on evidence-based practice, collaborative improvement, curriculum excellence and student achievement.
Working closely with the Head of Teaching and Learning 9-12, Head of Education and wider leadership team, the Head of English will:
Lead the educational and operational delivery of English programs across Years 9-12, including VCE English studies.
Drive excellence in curriculum design, pedagogy, assessment and evidence of learning across the faculty.
Lead and develop teachers through coaching, professional learning cycles and collaborative practice.
Ensure consistent implementation of the College's Education Blueprint, Instructional Model and Understanding by Design framework.
Oversee curriculum documentation, assessment practices, continuous reporting and feedback processes across the faculty.
Use student achievement data, including VCE outcomes,



to inform curriculum development and continuous improvement.
Lead faculty planning, innovation and change initiatives that enhance learning outcomes and student engagement.
Build solid relationships with students, families and colleagues while maintaining a visible and active presence within the College community.
The role requires an educational leader who can balance strategic curriculum leadership with strong operational management, while inspiring teachers to continually improve their practice and supporting students to achieve their potential.
About You:
The successful candidate will be an experienced and collaborative educational leader with a passion for English education and a proven ability to develop teacher capacity and improve student learning outcomes.
You will demonstrate:
Significant teaching experience in English, including VCE or other senior secondary English programs.
Proven leadership experience in curriculum, teaching and learning, ideally within a secondary school setting.
Strong knowledge of contemporary curriculum design, assessment and evidence-based teaching practices.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor and develop teachers to improve practice and student outcomes.
Experience leading curriculum development, assessment moderation and continuous improvement initiatives.
Strong analytical skills, including the ability to use student achievement and VCE data to inform decision-making and planning.
Highly developed communication, organisation and relationship-building skills.
A commitment to student wellbeing, personalised learning and creating inclusive learning environments.
Alignment with the Christian ethos and values of Beaconhills College.
