Job Description
The Shop Assistant is responsible for a range of tasks in the retail setting, including packing and organising stock, assisting with stock rotation, and ensuring the shop floor is well-maintained.
The Shop Assistant also performs customer service duties such as operating the register, assisting customers, and ensuring a smooth and efficient shopping experience.
You will be expected to always represent Byrnes Meats in a friendly, positive and professional manner with all dealings of customer interactions and business matters.
Key responsibilities
Operate the cash register, ensuring all transactions are processed efficiently and accurately
Handle cash and payments responsibly, following all cash handling procedures and ensuring all till balances are accurate
Ensure proper record-keeping for sales transactions and returns
Provide exceptional customer service, assisting customers with any questions, concerns or issues they may have
Cook hot food each morning for the Bain Marie, including preparing hot meals, snacks, and other ready-to-eat products for sale
Ensure food safety and hygiene when handling, cooking, and storing hot food,



keeping products at the correct temperature for customer purchase
Weigh, package, and label meats accurately, ensuring proper labelling with pricing, product descriptions, and other necessary information
Stack and display products on shelves, ensuring shelves are well-organised and visually appealing to customers
Rotate stock regularly according to FIFO (First In, First Out) guidelines, ensuring products are fresh and within their expiry dates
Receive and sign for deliveries, ensuring that all stock is accounted for and stored correctly
About you
Previous experience in a retail or customer service role
Collaborates effectively with all team members to ensure smooth and efficient operations
Flexibility and willingness to assist in various tasks as needed
Multitasking and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks
Strong attention to detail for organising stock and managing inventory
Basic numeracy skills for handling cash transactions and operating the register
Ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines
Excellent organisational and communication skills
