Enjoy the Far North Queensland lifestyle while working with the Maternity and Paediatric Unit, Mareeba Hospital as a Registered Nurse/Midwife (Dual Qualified).
In your role you will provide comprehensive midwifery, paediatric and general nursing care, supporting women, babies and families across the continuum of care within Mareeba's collaborative rural maternity service.
About us:
Mareeba Hospital services a local population of approximately 10,500 people, and provides a variety of inpatient, outpatient, and emergency services.
The facility has an overnight capacity of 52 beds, including 12 maternity beds, as well as supporting clinical and diagnostic services such as allied health, medical imaging, pharmacy, and pathology.
The Mareeba region features local attractions such as mountain bike riding, various wineries, and several coffee plantations, and is a short drive away from other scenic towns in the Atherton Tablelands region.
The Maternity and Paediatric Ward in Mareeba is a level 3 birthing service and provides care for antenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal women and low acuity paediatric patients.
Maternity services are provided through a Midwifery Group Practice (MGP) model including a First Nations MGP.
The Mareeba Maternity Service cares for around 300 women per year from the surrounding communities of Mareeba, Dimbulah, Kuranda and Chillagoe and the Midwifery Team collaborates with GP Proceduralists onsite and Consultants at Cairns Hospital.
Around 200 women birth at Mareeba Hospital each year and the others receive shared care with Cairns Hospital or other Tertiary Hospitals.




About your role:
Your main tasks may include (but are not limited to):
Provide effective and efficient clinical care in the area of paediatrics, general nursing and midwifery.
Work as Team Leader each shift, allocating tasks and patient care to RN's and ENAS's adhering to scope of practice requirements, and managing patient flow within the unit.
Respond appropriately to sudden alterations in the health status of the patient using comprehensive nursing and midwifery assessment and intervention skills.
Uphold the Breastfeeding Friendly Hospital Imitative (BFHI) guidelines, and support women with breastfeeding postnatally.
