Hyundai Rotem Company (HRC) was founded in **** and since that time, has been leading the industry globally by delivering critical national infrastructure in over 50 countries. A leader in the Korean rail industry, HRC has succeded in developing high-speed trains and is now establishing their presence in the Australian market.
Currently, the Australian operation of HRC is working on two major projects:
The New Intercity Fleet (NIF) Project - a joint venture between HRC, UGL and MEA, this project is delivering a fleet of recent intercity trains for operation in the NSW electrified rail network. The fleet comprises of 55 Long Units and 70 Short Units for the Newcastle, Blue Mountains, South Coast and Central Coast Lines; and
The Queensland Train Manufacturing Program (QTMP) - a project commissioning, designing and constructing a new manufacturing facility in Torbanlea Qld and a new maintenance facility in Ormeau Qld. It includes manufacturing and delivering 65 EMU Train sets (390 cars) by the end of ****.
Combined local and international design teams and suppliers will work together to ensure the delivery of manufacturing requirements and associated documentation to ensure that train sets locally manufactured in Australia meet the design, compliance, manufactuability, reliability, maintainability and safety specifications for the trains operational life for a minimum of at least 35 years.

Job Purpose
The Supplier Quality Inspector is responsible for ensuring subcontractor-supplied components meet quality standards and project requirements at the Torbanlea Manufacturing Facility.



This role is responsible for conducting incoming inspections, verifying documentation, supporting audits, and managing non-conformance reporting to maintain compliance with contractual, regulatory, and safety obligations.
Key Responsibilities
Perform incoming inspections on subcontractor-delivered components.
Review and verify documentation, including test reports and certificates.
Ensure components meet specified standards and project requirements.
Carbody & Welding Inspection
Perform incoming quality inspections of carbody structures, welded assemblies, and other welded components to verify compliance with drawings, specifications, and project requirements.
Review welding-related quality documentation, including Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), Procedure Qualification Records (PQR), welder qualification records, weld maps, inspection records, material certificates, and applicable NDT reports.
Support inspection and resolution of welding-related quality issues in collaboration with Engineering, Production, QC, and subcontractors.
Audit Support & Compliance
Assist in subcontractor quality audits and inspections within Australia.
Monitor compliance with HRC Quality Management System and Rail Safety legislation.
Report any deviations or non-conformances promptly.
Issue Management
Identify and elevate process-related quality issues during manufacturing.
Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and support corrective actions.




Collaborate with internal teams and subcontractors to resolve quality concerns.
Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of inspections, NCRs, and audit findings.
Provide timely updates to the Supplier Quality Manager and relevant stakeholders.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
Minimum 3 years' experience as a Quality Inspector or similar role - previous experience in Rollingstock or heavy manufacturing projects desirable
Previous experience in carbody, structural fabrication, welded assemblies, or welding inspection is highly desirable
Familiarity with applicable welding standards such as EN *****, ISO ****, AS/NZS ****, or equivalent standards is desirable
Knowledge of welding processes, common weld defects, visual inspection methods, acceptance criteria, and welding-related quality documentation is desirable
Experience reviewing welding documentation such as WPS, PQR, welder qualifications, weld maps, material certificates, inspection records, and NDT reports is preferable
Ability to interpret mechanical or electrical drawings
Knowledge of quality management principles and inspection processes
Experience with Material Controls/Warehousing processes and practices
Proficient in documentation and reporting using standard software tools
Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
Good communication and teamwork abilities
Familiarity with ISO**** and quality auditing practices
Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and travel for audits as required
