AI Systems Developer

n We're working with an innovative technology business that is investing heavily in AI and looking for an
AI Systems Developer
to join their engineering team.
n This is a hands‐on engineering role sitting at the intersection of
software development, AI and infrastructure
. You'll be responsible for taking AI capabilities beyond experimentation and turning them into reliable, production‐ready systems.
n
The majority of your time will be spent working on the core application and helping build the systems and tooling that support the company's AI capabilities.
n The RoleYou'll be responsible for:

Building, improving and maintaining production software.
n
Developing and integrating
LLM-powered features, AI agents and retrieval systems
.
n
Building data and ETL pipelines that support AI applications.
n
Working with model APIs and contemporary AI tooling to deliver practical solutions.
n
Contributing to internal AI engineering and developer tooling.
n
Taking ownership of features from development through to production.
n
Improving system reliability, performance, latency and cost.
n
Implementing monitoring, tracing and alerting across application and AI workloads.
n
Troubleshooting production issues and contributing to incident response.
n
Working closely with engineers to improve how AI systems are developed, tested and deployed.

What We're Looking For What we're looking for a strong software engineer who is comfortable working with production systems and has hands‐on experience building with AI. n
You'll ideally have:
n
n
5+ years' commercial software engineering experience.
n
Strong experience building and supporting
production applications
.
n
Strong
Ruby on Rails
experience — this is particularly important as the core application is Rails-based.
n
Strong
PostgreSQL
experience.
n
Experience working with
AWS
.
n
Experience with
Terraform / Infrastructure as Code
.
n




Hands‐on experience building applications using
LLMs, AI agents, RAG/retrieval or model APIs
.
n
Experience building
data or ETL pipelines
.
n
Experience with production observability, monitoring and alerting.
n
An understanding of reliability, scalability, latency and infrastructure costs.
n
A pragmatic approach to engineering, with a focus on shipping and operating real software.
n
AI Experience We're particularly interested in engineers who have gone beyond simply integrating an LLM API and have experience thinking about
how AI systems operate in production
. n
This could include experience with:
n
n
AI agents and agentic workflows
n
RAG and retrieval systems
n
LLM application architecture
n
Model APIs / model serving
n
AI evaluation and testing
n
AI coding agents
n
Developer tooling
n
Data pipelines supporting AI applications
n
AI observability and monitoring
n
Managing AI performance and infrastructure costs
n
You don't need experience across every area. Strong software engineering fundamentals combined with genuine hands‐on AI experience are more important. n
