An exciting opportunity is available for an experienced legislation lawyer to support significant legislative reform initiatives within a Commonwealth Government environment.
We are seeking a senior legal professional with strong expertise in legislative development, drafting and reform to contribute to high-profile projects with national significance. This engagement offers the opportunity to work on complex legislative matters, provide strategic legal advice and support the development of primary and subordinate legislation.
This secondment is expected to commence in
mid-October ****
and continue through to
30 June ****
. Applicants
must hold a valid Baseline Security Clearance or higher
at the time of application.
Key responsibilities
Providing high-quality legal advice on legislative and regulatory matters.
Preparing drafting instructions for legislative amendments and new legislation.
Assisting with the development of primary and subordinate legislation.
Drafting explanatory materials and supporting documentation.
Advising on parliamentary processes and legislative scrutiny requirements.
Analysing complex legal issues and presenting practical advice to stakeholders in a clear and accessible manner.
Supporting legislative reform projects within tight timeframes.
To be successful, you will ideally possess:
A minimum of
five years' post-admission experience
.
Experience at an
EL1 equivalent level or above
.
Strong legislative development and reform experience.
Legislative drafting experience, preferably within the Commonwealth environment.
Demonstrated experience preparing drafting instructions and explanatory materials.
Strong legal research, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Exceptional attention to detail and written communication skills.
Experience delivering complex legal advice within demanding timeframes.
The following will be highly regarded:
Previous experience within the Australian Public Service.
Knowledge of Commonwealth legislative processes.
Familiarity with the Legal Services Directions.
Experience in regulatory, compliance, biosecurity, export control or cost recovery frameworks.
Working arrangements
Canberra-based candidates are preferred.
A hybrid working arrangement is available. However, candidates must be able to work onsite for approximately two-thirds of their engagement.
Full-time or part time arrangements will be considered.
Remote arrangements may be considered for candidates with extensive Commonwealth legislative drafting experience.
