Permanent appointment

Within the Geological Survey and Resource Strategy Division, you will apply your geological expertise to statewide prospectivity analysis and geological reporting to help support and maintain the resources sector in Western Australia.

As a member of the Land Use Planning Branch, you will help shape and inform land use planning policy and outcomes, by supporting continued access for exploration and resource development of the State’s mineral, basic raw material, petroleum and geothermal energy resources. This involves industry consultation, multi-commodity geological assessments and regional prospectivity studies.

The role

As a Senior Geologist in the Land Use Geoscience team, you will draw on your technical expertise and industry knowledge to undertake geological assessments and prospectivity reviews that inform land tenure decisions and help mitigate land use conflict across the State.

To succeed in this role, you will be degree-qualified in Geoscience and have considerable experience in mineral exploration, resource assessment and geological interpretation. You will provide geoscientific advice on mineral, basic raw materials, petroleum and geothermal energy exploration, and demonstrate confidence in GIS and geoscience database applications. You will be skilled in preparing technical reports and spatial products, with the ability to translate complex geological information into practical advice. Experience across a range of commodities, together with an understanding of land use planning, resource access issues, or relevant regulatory frameworks will be highly regarded.

While this selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy, it may also be used to fill other similar vacancies (permanent, fixed-term, full-time or part time) within the department for the next 12 months, from the date that the recruitment breach period has been finalised.

Eligibility

To be eligible for a permanent appointment applicants must be an Australian citizen,



permanent resident, or have a visa that allows them to live and work indefinitely in Australia at the time of application. Applicants with a valid visa to work and live in Australia for a specific duration may be assessed and considered suitable for similar fixed term vacancies that arise.

Applicants must provide a copy of their Bachelor of Science (Geoscience) or approved equivalent degree and/or academic transcripts to verify relevance to the job requirements. Qualifications obtained outside of Australia must be provided with an assessment from the Overseas Qualifications Unit to ensure they meet Australian Standards (this is a free service).

To work for DMPE, you must consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a clearance before you start. If deemed suitable, DMPE will coordinate and pay for your NCCHC as part of your pre-employment checks.
