Hobart
The Opportunity
Working across Best Western Hobart and Best Western Plus Launceston, you will be responsible for driving new business, developing existing accounts and strengthening our position across corporate, leisure, wholesale, inbound, group, conference and tourism markets.
You will work closely with hotel management, revenue, reservations and operational teams to make sure sales activity translates into profitable business for both properties.
This is an office-based position, not a remote role. Travel between our Hobart and Launceston properties, as well as travel for client meetings, trade activity, industry events and business development, will be required.
What You Will Be Responsible For
Your primary focus will be generating and growing revenue across both hotels.
You will:
- Proactively identify and win new business across corporate, government, groups, conferences, wholesale, inbound, retail travel and tourism sectors.
- Develop and manage key accounts with a clear focus on revenue growth, retention and share of wallet.
- Build strong relationships with tourism operators, travel agents, wholesalers, inbound operators and industry partners.
- Manage relationships and commercial opportunities involving Online Travel Agents and other accommodation distribution partners.
- Conduct sales calls, client meetings, site inspections, familiarisations and networking activity.
- Identify opportunities across accommodation, food and beverage, conferences, meetings and events.
- Cross-sell Best Western Hobart and Best Western Plus Launceston wherever opportunities exist.
- Maintain an active sales pipeline and provide transparent reporting on activity, conversion and future opportunities.
- Monitor competitors, market conditions and emerging demand and share relevant commercial intelligence with hotel management.
- Work with Revenue Management to understand demand, seasonality, pricing opportunities and need periods.
- Participate in revenue, sales and strategic planning meetings.
- Support annual sales planning, budgeting and forecasting.
- Develop targeted campaigns and marketing activity that directly support sales objectives.
- Oversee relevant digital marketing, social media and hotel marketing activity.
- Measure marketing activity against commercial outcomes rather than activity alone.
- Represent both hotels professionally within the Tasmanian tourism and business communities.
What We Are Looking For
This role requires someone with genuine hotel commercial experience.
Hotel industry experience is essential.
You will ideally bring:
- Previous hotel sales, business development or sales and marketing management experience.
- Strong knowledge of hotel accommodation sales and distribution.
- Demonstrated experience working with Online Travel Agents such as Booking.com and Expedia and an understanding of how OTAs fit within a broader hotel distribution strategy.
- Experience working with tourism operators, wholesalers, travel agents, inbound operators or other tourism distribution partners.
- Strong business development and account-management capability.
- Confidence prospecting for new business rather than relying solely on existing accounts or inbound enquiries.
- Experience across corporate, group, conference, leisure or tourism markets.
- A commercial understanding of ADR, occupancy, RevPAR, rate strategy and hotel revenue performance.
- Strong relationship-building and negotiation skills.
- The ability to represent two properties and identify opportunities that benefit the wider group.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Good organisation, follow-up and pipeline-management discipline.
- The confidence to work independently while remaining closely connected to each hotel's operational and commercial teams.
Experience in the Tasmanian accommodation or tourism market would be highly regarded.
This Role Will Suit Someone Who
Enjoys sales.
You should be comfortable picking up the phone, meeting clients, attending industry events, visiting businesses and actively looking for the next commercial opportunity.
We are not looking for someone who wants to spend 80% of their week creating social-media content.
Marketing is part of the position, but sales performance, account growth and new-business acquisition will define success in this role.
You will need to understand that sometimes the best commercial opportunity for Hobart may be different from Launceston, while other opportunities can be leveraged across both hotels.
That requires someone who can think at both property and group level.
Working Arrangements
This is a full-time, office-based role supporting Best Western Hobart and Best Western Plus Launceston.
Regular travel between properties and some additional travel for client meetings, trade events, sales activity and industry representation is required.
Applicants must hold Australian citizenship or Australian permanent residency with unrestricted working rights in Australia.
A current driver's licence will be required due to the travel component of the position.
Why Join Topstay?
This is an opportunity to take ownership of the commercial sales activity for two established hotels operating in Tasmania's two largest accommodation markets.
You will have the opportunity to build relationships across corporate, tourism, wholesale and accommodation sectors while working directly with hotel leadership, revenue and operational teams.
Most importantly, this is a role where good sales activity can be seen directly in the performance of the business.
If you have a genuine hotel background, enjoy developing business and know how to turn relationships into revenue, we would like to hear from you.
Apply through SEEK with your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your hotel sales experience and your experience working with OTAs and tourism distribution partners. Applications close 5pm Sunday the 18th of October.
