Kangaroo Island is located 110 km Southwest of Adelaide, easily accessed by ferry or plane. A mix of attractive small townships and fascinating wilderness, Kangaroo Island is Australia's third largest island.

The Kangaroo Island Council covers an area of approximately 4400 square kilometres and is home to a population of approximately 5125 permanent and temporary residents, and approximately 200,000 state, interstate and international tourists each year. Tourism and agriculture consisting of sheep, wool, grains, fishing and forestry are the major industries contributing to the Island's economy. Reporting to the Director Corporate Services and assisted by a multi-skilled team, key responsibilities of this critical role will include:

- Accountability for operational and strategic direction, leadership and overall performance of Kangaroo Island Council’s Financial Services department

- Ensuring the efficient and effective delivery of financial planning, reporting, treasury management and the operation of financial systems to ensure the efficient delivery of financial services to meet statutory legislation.

- Providing strong technical accounting knowledge, skills and experience and sound people management

- · Ensuring compliant financial systems and processes, leading audit processes and providing timely, accurate budgeting, financial and statutory reporting





- Presenting financial and business information to the executive and/or Council, and explaining technical accounting principles and the impact of changes to short term and long-term financial plans on operations

- As a member of the Senior Leadership Team, contributing to the strategic leadership, organisational performance and day-to-day management of Council’s operations, including the implementation and continuous improvement of Council’s Integrated Planning and Reporting (IP&R;) framework and long-term financial sustainability.

Previous and demonstrable leadership experience of a broad finance team or function, along with a relevant tertiary qualification in Accounting or a related discipline will be required.

A strong and accountable leadership style along with well-developed written and verbal communication skills, high level computer literacy, and excellent internal and external stakeholder engagement capability will be critical to success.

Prior experience working in remote, rural/regional areas and a willingness to relocate to Kangaroo Island will be required.
