About the role

Full time or Part Time permanent position available, based in Alice Springs NT. Reporting directly to the General Manager Client Services, you will be responsible for:

- Building trusted, culturally safe relationships with Aboriginal Elders, community leaders, families, service providers and local organisations
- Representing Dementia Australia across Alice Springs and remote Central Australian communities, strengthening local visibility and engagement
- Developing and implementing regional community engagement and awareness initiatives to increase dementia awareness and reduce stigma
- Establishing and maintaining partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs), councils, health services and other key stakeholders
- Creating and delivering culturally safe, accessible and locally relevant dementia education, awareness and engagement resources
- Identifying community needs, strengths, barriers and opportunities, and sharing insights to inform service planning and culturally responsive practice
- Supporting welcoming pathways for community members to access Dementia Australia services, information and support
- Coordinating travel and engagement across remote communities, ensuring compliance with permits, community protocols and safe work practices
- Providing guidance, mentoring and capability development to local workers and less experienced staff
- Supporting workforce attraction, recruitment and retention while strengthening Dementia Australia's local partnerships, capability and community impact

Salary benefits:



We offer all employees the opportunity to salary package up to $15,900 each year for living expenses and up to $2,650 each year for meal and entertainment benefits.

Leave allowances: In addition to your annual leave allowance, you will receive one day of paid birthday or day of significance leave, paid days off during our end of year closure period (if these fall within your regular work days), enhanced personal leave and extended parental leave for all parents. You will also receive 17.5% annual leave loading and the option to purchase additional leave.

About you

Due to the cultural context of the role and community engagement requirements, this position is an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified position under Section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975, open to male applicants only, in line with allowable exemptions under the Sex Discrimination Act 1984.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone with the following:

1. Experience in community engagement or a similar role, with the demonstrated ability to lead initiatives and achieve positive outcomes
2. Strong local knowledge of health and community organisations, with experience building and maintaining networks and partnerships with key stakeholders
3. Experience working in or with remote Aboriginal communities, including an understanding of local community contexts and culturally protected engagement practices (desirable)
4. Understands of the impacts of colonisation, intergenerational trauma and barriers to accessing services
5. Tertiary qualification in Health, Community Services, Human Services or a related field (highly desirable)
