ARC Justice is an independent, for-purpose, human rights organisation that incorporates the Loddon Campaspe Community Legal Centre, the Goulburn Valley Community Legal Centre and Housing Justice. We have offices in Bendigo and Shepparton and work with people in regional and rural Victoria who experience disadvantage relating to their housing, family, relationship, consumer, economic, social and civil rights.

This is not a principal lawyer job.

Yes, you’ll lead a legal practice. But that’s only part of it.

ARC Justice works across central and northern Victoria, in communities where some of the biggest challenges of our time are playing out in very real ways.

Gendered violence. Housing insecurity. Climate change.

We see what happens when those things collide. We see it in our legal work, in the stories people tell us and in the patterns that emerge across communities.

Our job isn’t only to respond when someone reaches us with a legal problem. It’s also to ask what sits behind that problem. What keeps happening? What needs to change? And what can we do about it?

Lead the practice. Build the people.

Our next Director of Legal Services will lead and develop our legal services, working with four Managing Lawyers and teams across family violence, family law, housing and civil law.

But we don’t want you just sitting above those teams dispensing legal wisdom.

We want you building their capability, asking positive questions, spotting what we’re missing and connecting what our lawyers are seeing every day with the bigger picture.

You’ll also champion genuinely integrated practice, where lawyers work alongside social workers, financial counsellors and other professionals to get better outcomes for people.

Your influence won’t stop at legal practice.

You’ll sit on ARC Justice’s executive team, with a real hand in where this organisation goes next.

you need to be an excellent lawyer. You’ll need a Principal Practising Certificate and at least 10 years’ post-admission experience.

But we’re looking for more than technical expertise.

We’re looking for someone who understands that the law can solve the problem in front of you and help change what caused it in the first place.

This is a permanent full-time position or may be part-time by negotiation. Based in Bendigo or Shepparton.
