Job Description
About the role Officers contribute to community safety and assist offenders in finding paths for improvement in their lives. They supervise inmates in correctional facilities, including prisons and court cells throughout New South Wales. They are required to interact with inmates and ensure the safety and security of the facility by undertaking searches, monitoring behaviours, and communicating effectively.

What will you do?
n
Correctional Officers work within a supportive team environment where no two shifts are the same. Some of the vital tasks you can expect to perform include:
n
n
- Carrying out daily tasks and duties following legislation, CSNSW and DCJ policies and procedures to ensure the safety, well‐being, security, and rehabilitation of inmates.
n
- Perform daily accountability routines including muster, head checks, ongoing observation of offenders.
n
- Conduct searches and other detection activities to find and remove contraband from the facility or court complex, and to monitor offenders, boosting security and safety for everyone.
n
- Manage inmates' requests for services or accelerate them if needed.
n
- Supervise offender activities in their designated work, living, or approved zones, making sure everything runs in accordance with the principles of fairness, equity and efficient secure practice.

Requirements of the role:
n
n
- Minimum age of 18 years old
n
- Current MR – Medium Rigid drivers licence OR willingness to obtain MR licence within 3 months from appointment.
n
- Australia or New Zealand Citizen or Permanent Resident
n
- Willing to complete Certificate III in Correctional Practise.
n
- Meet the medical standards to be a correctional officer and have reasonable level of fitness.
n
- Candidates will be required to provide details of visible body art or modifications that are on the face, scalp, ears, neck, or hands as well as tattoos or modifications of an offensive nature. For this policy, this is specific to the anything visible beyond the fastened collar or buttoned cuff of a long sleeve shirt. Please refer to the dress manual below for further information.

- Have applied for a Correctional Officer (Casual or Ongoing) role within Corrective Services NSW within the last 12 months.

- You are currently going through the recruitment process for another location or Correctional Officer role within a Correctional Centre.
