The Alcohol & Other Drug (AOD) Counsellor delivers high quality, evidence based and trauma informed therapeutic interventions to individuals and/or families impacted by alcohol & other drug use.
This position forms part of the Counselling & AOD team and collaborates with related programs, as required.
Skills and experience
Qualifications
- Minimum Diploma in Counselling or Tertiary Degree in Counselling, Social Work or related fields.
- Minimum Cert IV in Mental Health and Alcohol & Other Drugs (AOD) or willing to obtain
Mandatory
- Membership with ACA, PACFA, AASW, AHPRA etc.
Desirable
- Strong understanding of alcohol & other drug (AOD) treatment, harm reduction and behaviour change models.
- Experience working with diverse communities, including involuntary clients.
- Knowledge of trauma informed practice and cultural safety.
- Strong assessment and clinical judgement.
- Experience providing counselling.
- Skills of assessment, case co-ordination and current alcohol & other drug (AOD) knowledge.
