Assistant Director, Rehabilitation & HR Business Partner

The Assistant Director, Rehabilitation and HR Business Partner plays a key leadership role in delivering strategic rehabilitation, compensation, employee wellbeing and workforce management services across the Agency. The position is responsible for leading complex employee health and case management matters, including workers' compensation, rehabilitation and return-to-work programs, workplace adjustments, fitness for duty assessments and other sensitive employment issues. As a trusted HR Business Partner, the role provides expert advice to managers and executives, helping to balance employee wellbeing, operational requirements and legislative obligations while contributing to workforce planning, organisational capability and broader people initiatives. The role requires strong judgement, stakeholder management skills and the ability to deliver practical, risk-based and people-centred solutions in a complex environment.

The key duties of the position include:

- Demonstrated experience managing complex rehabilitation, workers' compensation, injury management and return-to-work cases.
- Strong knowledge of Comcare frameworks, rehabilitation principles and relevant employment legislation.
- Proven ability to provide strategic HR advice on complex workforce, wellbeing and employee relations matters.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, communication and influencing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships across all levels.
- Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess risk and deliver practical, compliant solutions.




- Experience developing policies, reports, briefs and recommendations to support informed decision-making and continuous improvement.
- Relevant qualifications in HR, Employment Relations, Rehabilitation, Health Sciences, Psychology or a related discipline, with APS and/or Comcare-regulated experience highly regarded.

Eligibility

Australian citizenship is a mandatory eligibility requirement. Candidates must be able to obtain and maintain both a national police clearance and a Negative Vetting Level 1 security clearance, with the capacity to attain a higher-level clearance if required by the Agency.
