About us
Stepwise Community Services (formerly Metro Assist) works with individuals, families and communities of diverse backgrounds, including migrants and refugees, to build resilience and independence. We deliver refugee settlement support, employment services, family services, emergency relief, tenancy advice, financial counselling and community development programs across Sydney.
We're currently strengthening and evolving our service delivery model as part of a broader period of organisational growth, making this an exciting time to shape how our story is told.
About the role
As our Marketing and Communications Lead, you will own the delivery of our marketing, communications and brand activity, from strategy through to hands-on execution. This is a true generalist role: one day you might be advising the CEO on a media opportunity, the next drafting a newsletter, briefing a design supplier, or coordinating an annual report.
You will work closely with the CEO, Executive Leadership Team, and service delivery leaders to turn our program outcomes, impact evidence and community stories into clear, compelling communications across digital, print and media channels. There are no direct reports, which suits someone who thrives working autonomously and wearing multiple hats.
What you will be doing
- Developing and helping shape our communications and brand strategy, aligned with organisational priorities
- Creating content across website, social media,
newsletters, publications, campaigns and stakeholder materials
- Translating program outcomes and impact data into clear, compelling stories
- Managing our website content and social media channels
- Coordinating media engagement, events and external stakeholder communications, and advising the CEO/Executive team on messaging, tone and reputational considerations
- Managing relationships with external design, marketing and communications suppliers
- Supporting advocacy and impact reporting through written and visual storytelling
What we’re looking for
- Substantial experience in a senior marketing or communications role, ideally where you have operated as a sole practitioner or led a small function
- A genuine generalist: equally comfortable writing a media statement, briefing a designer, managing a website, and advising senior leaders
- Excellent writing, editing and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate complex or technical information into accessible content
- Sound judgement on messaging, tone, risk and stakeholder sensitivities ???
- Experience managing external suppliers and multiple concurrent priorities
- Not-for-profit, community services or government-funded sector experience highly regarded
- A commitment to inclusive, culturally protected and respectful communication
What we offer
- Not-for-profit salary packaging to increase your take-home pay
- Additional paid wellbeing leave days
- Flexible and hybrid working arrangements
- The opportunity to shape the voice of an organisation making a genuine difference for diverse communities
