A Grade Electrical is an established Brisbane electrical contractor specialising in high-volume residential construction. We operate across South East Queensland with approximately 25 employees, multiple operational bases and a large number of active residential jobsites.

We are seeking an practical and proactive WHS & Compliance Manager to take ownership of our workplace health and safety systems, site compliance, training and continuous improvement.

This is a hands-on role suited to someone who is comfortable working both in the office and across active construction sites. You will work closely with the owners, the Operations Manager, leading hands, electricians, apprentices, warehouse team and builder clients.

WHS & Compliance Manager

The role

The WHS & Compliance Manager will be responsible for developing, implementing and monitoring A Grade Electrical’s workplace health, safety and compliance systems.

The role will help ensure that our employees are properly trained, our sites and work practices are regularly inspected, incidents are appropriately managed, and our systems comply with Queensland workplace health and safety and electrical-safety requirements.

You will provide practical advice and support while helping build a strong, accountable safety culture throughout the business.

Key responsibilities

- Maintain and continually improve the company’s WHS management system.

- Monitor compliance with Queensland WHS and electrical-safety legislation, codes of practice and relevant industry requirements.

- Review and maintain SWMS, risk assessments, safe work procedures, policies, forms and safety registers.

- Conduct regular inspections and audits across residential jobsites, warehouses, operational bases and company vehicles.

- Identify hazards, assess risks and work with management and employees to implement effective controls.

- Lead employee inductions, toolbox meetings, safety briefings and refresher training.

- Maintain records of employee licences, competencies, White Cards, training, inductions and qualifications.

- Maintain registers for ladders, test instruments, tools, PPE, plant, vehicles, chemicals and other safety-critical equipment.

- Monitor testing, calibration, inspection and replacement requirements.





- Investigate incidents, injuries, near misses, property damage and reported hazards.

- Prepare investigation reports, corrective actions and follow-up reviews.

- Assist management with statutory incident and dangerous electrical-event reporting where required.

- Coordinate workers’ compensation, rehabilitation and return-to-work processes.

- Assist with builder pre-qualification requirements, safety questionnaires, audits and compliance reporting.

- Review subcontractor licences, insurances, SWMS and other compliance documentation.

- Liaise with builder safety representatives, WorkSafe Queensland, the Electrical Safety Office, WorkCover and external consultants when required.

- Track safety performance, outstanding actions, recurring defects and emerging risks.

- Prepare concise monthly WHS reports for the owners.

- Promote employee consultation and encourage the reporting of hazards and near misses.

- Support emergency planning, first-aid arrangements and incident-response procedures.

- Assist the Qualified Technical Person and management with the electrical contractor’s risk-management and compliance systems without replacing the statutory responsibilities of the QTP.

- Keep management informed of relevant legislative and industry changes.

Required qualifications and experience

- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419) or higher.

- Current Queensland construction White Card.

- Current Australian driver’s licence.

- Demonstrated experience preparing and reviewing SWMS, risk assessments, and safe work procedures.

- Practical experience conducting site inspections, audits and incident investigations.

- Sound knowledge of Queensland WHS legislation and construction safety requirements.

- Strong written communication and record-keeping skills.

- Confidence delivering toolbox talks,



training and corrective feedback.

- Good computer skills and experience using digital compliance or safety-management systems.

- Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities and follow corrective actions through to completion.

Highly regarded

- Current Queensland electrical mechanic licence.

- Previous experience working as an electrician, electrical supervisor or electrical-safety adviser.

- Diploma of Work Health and Safety.

- Queensland WHSO certificate of authority or eligibility to obtain one.

- Rehabilitation and Return to Work Coordinator training or experience.

- ICAM or equivalent incident-investigation training.

- ISO 45001 internal or lead auditor qualification.

- Current first aid and CPR qualifications.

- Experience managing safety across a large number of geographically dispersed construction sites.

- Knowledge of residential electrical installation, testing and verification requirements.

- Experience working with apprentices and trade-based workforces.
