Clinical Research Nurse (with cardio metabolic imaging)

This is an opportunity for a Research Nurse to work in the field of clinical cardiology with an emphasis on cardiometabolic imaging. The scope of the research work includes studies in patients with cardiovascular disease and comorbidities such as diabetes. Most research studies involve cardiac imaging and frequent interaction with sonographers, radiographers, exercise physiologist, research assistants and imaging specialists. The position will involve blood collections including intravenous cannula insertion, patient interviews, performance of ECGs, and 6 minutes walk tests. Data collection and research management and administration in compliance with GCP standards are important skills. This role has considerable potential for self-directed skill acquisition. Work is within a recently established and rapidly expanding team of enthusiastic researchers with an excellent camaraderie. Interaction and collaboration with the Baker Institute and external research groups is a key requirement of this position.

Key responsibilities

- Perform experimental tests and procedures according to research protocols
- Act as a patient advocate at all times and be involved with health promotion and advice
- Clinical practice skills involving patients with specific health conditions with a focus on clinical cardiology, haemodynamic monitoring and exercise science
- Ensure all biological samples are collected, stored and processed as per study protocol and applicable storage and handling regulations
- Assist in exercise testing




- Perform and assist in the performance cardiovascular diagnostic testing including electrocardiogram, ambulatory cardiac monitoring and exercise testing
- Screen, recruit and consent of participants with PICF, and if applicable be involved in the ongoing informed consent process through direct communication with study participants
- Clinical data collection, Case Report Form Completion, REDcap database completion and analysis of clinical research data where appropriate according to research protocols
- Maintain effective communication process with participants/patients, investigators and other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure information is appropriately shared
- Proactive attendance at team meetings and attendance at all relevant seminars and staff meetings

About you

- Bachelor of Nursing (Division 1 Nurse) and relevant experience
- Registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia / Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency
- Demonstrated previous experience as a Registered Nurse with previous nursing experience in a cardiology department or research institute being highly desirable
- Excellent communication skills and ability to share knowledge with clinicians and research personal across multiple disciplines/settings
- Experience in administrative and management skills are important




- Experience in assisting and or performing cardiovascular diagnostics (ECGs, 6 minute walk tests) is preferred
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Demonstrated ability to participate positively in a team
- Excellent planning and organizational skills, including the ability to manage a range of tasks with conflicting priorities
- Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines without compromising close attention to detail and accuracy
