ADACAS is a leading advocacy organisation supporting people to understand and exercise their rights. Our work is grounded in a strong commitment to human rights, social justice and self-determination. ADACAS and Illawarra Advocacy have merged, bringing together their experience to provide independent disability advocacy across our funded NSW service areas.

About the Role

As a Disability Advocate, you will provide information, education and individual advocacy to people with disability. You will work directly with clients to understand their goals, navigate services, resolve concerns and make informed decisions. The role combines individual advocacy, community education and stakeholder engagement. You will work across three programs, within each program’s funded service area:

National Disability Advocacy Program (NDAP): support people with disability facing complex challenges to understand and exercise their rights,



consider options, address barriers and access services. This program’s funded area is outside Batemans Bay.

NDIS Appeals Program: provide non-legal advocacy to people affected by reviewable NDIA decisions, helping them navigate external review at the Administrative Review Tribunal or an agreed dispute resolution pathway. This can include preparing documents and attending conferences or hearings.

Disability Advocacy Futures Program (DAFP): provide individual advocacy to help people with disability access NSW Government and mainstream community services and supports, including health, education, housing and justice services in the funded NSW regions.

National Redress Scheme: provide free, confidential and trauma informed support to people engaging with the National Redress Scheme, including help to understand the Scheme, prepare an application and access specialist services.

Key Responsibilities

Provide information, support and individual advocacy to people with disability, guided by their views, wishes and rights.





Assist clients to understand their rights and options across disability, NDIS and NSW mainstream service systems.

Support clients to self-advocate and advocate alongside or on behalf of them when appropriate.

Deliver rights-based education and community information sessions.

Develop positive relationships with disability, health, housing and community organisations and other key stakeholders across the South Coast.

Maintain accurate case records and data within Salesforce.

Identify recurring barriers and issues that may inform broader advocacy and service improvement.

About You

Strong commitment to human rights, social justice and person-centred practice.

Experience within disability advocacy, community services, health, law or a related sector.

Excellent communication, relationship-building and advocacy skills.

Experience supporting people to navigate complex systems and services.

Knowledge of NDIS reviews, the Tribunal, NSW services or South Coast networks, or the ability to quickly develop this knowledge.

Relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent experience.

Experience working with or advocating for people with disability.

Ability to interpret legislation, policy and service processes and manage complex individual matters.

National Police Check (or ability to obtain).

NSW Working With Children Check (or ability to obtain and maintain).

Current Australian Driver Licence and access to your own private vehicle for work travel. Business travel is reimbursed under ADACAS arrangements.
