About the Role

We are seeking four experienced Senior Java Developers to join a major technology program focused on the modernisation of business-critical revenue systems.

This is a hands-on engineering opportunity suited to developers who can operate confidently within established enterprise environments while helping transition applications towards more contemporary architectures and cloud-based technologies.

You will contribute to the enhancement and modernisation of Java applications supporting high-volume financial and revenue-related processes. The role involves working across existing Java and Oracle environments while introducing modern development practices, Spring Boot services, cloud technologies and containerised solutions.

The successful candidates will bring solid backend development capability, sound database knowledge and the ability to understand and improve complex legacy systems. Experience applying AI-enabled development tools to legacy codebases or migration activities will also be viewed favourably.

Position: Senior Java Developer - $900 to $930/day + super
Location: Parramatta, NSW
Working Arrangement: Hybrid, 2-3 days per week

Key Responsibilities

- Develop, enhance and maintain enterprise Java applications across a complex technology environment.




- Modernise established applications while maintaining business continuity and system reliability.
- Design and implement backend services using Java and Spring Boot.
- Build and maintain RESTful APIs and service integrations.
- Work with Oracle databases, SQL and PL/SQL to support application functionality and data processes.
- Analyse existing legacy code and identify opportunities for refactoring, optimisation and migration.
- Develop and support microservices using appropriate architecture and design patterns.
- Deploy and operate applications within AWS environments.
- Containerise Spring Boot applications using Docker and support configuration and performance tuning.
- Apply secure coding, testing and development standards throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Participate in code reviews, technical discussions and solution design activities.
- Investigate defects, troubleshoot production issues and contribute to root cause analysis.
- Work with Git-based source control and contemporary development and delivery tooling.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and automated build and deployment processes.
- Collaborate with business analysts, architects, testers, product representatives and other technology specialists.
- Participate in Agile ceremonies including sprint planning, refinement, reviews and retrospectives.
- Provide technical guidance and mentoring to less experienced developers.
- Support knowledge sharing and promote consistent engineering practices across the team.
- Identify practical opportunities to use AI-enabled development tools for legacy code analysis, documentation, testing and modernisation activities.
- Prepare technical documentation covering designs, integrations, application changes and operational requirements.
- Contribute to continuous improvement across development processes, application performance and engineering standards.

About You

- Extensive commercial experience developing enterprise applications using Java.
- Strong hands-on experience with Java 7 or later, with Java 8+ highly desirable.
- Strong Spring Boot development experience.
- Practical experience developing REST APIs and backend services.




- Demonstrated experience working with legacy Java applications and modernisation programs.
- Strong Oracle database experience, including SQL and preferably PL/SQL.
- Experience with microservices architecture and associated design patterns.
- Hands-on AWS experience within software development or application modernisation projects.
- Experience deploying or supporting Spring Boot applications in Docker containers.
- Good understanding of application performance, troubleshooting and production support.
- Experience with Git and source control workflows.
- Exposure to CI/CD, automated testing and DevOps practices.
- Experience working within Agile or Scrum delivery environments.
- Familiarity with JBoss or similar enterprise Java application servers.
- Experience with Hibernate or Spring Data is desirable.
- Exposure to Bitbucket, GitLab or comparable development platforms is advantageous.
- Exposure to React or modern JavaScript frameworks is beneficial but not essential.
- Experience using AI development tools to assist with legacy application analysis, migration or software engineering is advantageous.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability.
- Clear communication skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Comfortable providing mentoring and technical guidance to other developers.
- Able to work effectively within a regulated or highly structured enterprise environment.
- Able to commence at short notice, subject to completion of the required police check.
- Must hold valid working rights in Australia for the duration of the engagement. Sponsorship is not available. Australian permanent residency, Australian citizenship or a long-term Australian working visa is required.
