OVERVIEW The Adviser, Strategy and Insights role sits within International Education & Study Melbourne at the Department of Jobs, Skills, Industry and Regions in Australia. This position supports Victoria’s international education sector through policy development, research, analysis and stakeholder collaboration aimed at strengthening the state’s global competitiveness and economic value. The role is offered as a full-time fixed term opportunity until 30 June 2027 and is based at 121 Exhibition Street, Melbourne. The position forms part of the Trade, Global Engagement, International Education and Migration Branch within the Industry, Trade, and Investment Group. The team works with businesses, government and stakeholders to promote Victoria as a destination for international education, trade and investment.
Key responsibilities
- Research, develop and evaluate policy related to international education and economic outcomes
- Analyse issues and develop evidence-based recommendations
- Collaborate with stakeholders to support effective policy outcomes
- Draft reports and recommendations by interpreting and analysing data
- Prepare reports, briefs and correspondence on complex issues affecting programs or organisational priorities
- Provide advice and analysis that contributes to policy formulation
- Contribute expertise to teams working on complex projects
- Convey specialist concepts and policies to clients, staff and stakeholders
- Support engagement across the international education sector and government stakeholders
- Respond to changing priorities and work collaboratively across teams
Requirements
- Ability to use policy and analytical skills to support government advice and decision-making
- Solid research and analytical capability
- Ability to interpret and apply relevant policies
- Experience drafting policies and business cases
- Ability to consult with stakeholders to develop effective policy responses
- Strong written communication skills for reports, briefs and correspondence
- Ability to build supportive and cooperative working relationships
- Flexibility and adaptability in responding to changing priorities
- Ability to collaborate effectively across teams and support colleagues in challenging situations
- Tertiary qualification in public policy, economics or another relevant field is desired
- Knowledge of or experience in the international education sector is desired
- Successful completion of a National Police Records Check prior to commencement
