Business Development Manager – Acquisitions
$130,000 – $150,000 per year + Incentive
We acquire, own and build Australian businesses. We acquire good Australian businesses and hold them forever. We're not a private equity fund — there's no fund structure, no investors to exit for, and no timeline pressuring a sale. We acquire established businesses with decades of operating history, and we keep them, their brands, and their teams intact for the long run.
We are now looking for an experienced BDM to join our business to help develop and source a pipeline of new acquisition opportunities.
What you'll do:
Identify and qualify acquisition targets which fit our investment criteria (usually owner operator businesses)
Plan and run outbound prospecting campaigns including LinkedIn, phone, email. Attend industry trade shows and events across our target sectors to build our profile and meet business owners directly
Build, lead and maintain relationships with accountants, business brokers, lawyers and wealth advisers (in person where available) who work with SME owners approaching retirement or succession decisions — the people who refer us our best opportunities
Be the first point of contact for business owners who reach out, running a genuine first conversation to understand their business and situation
Screen and triage inbound enquiries — sizing up fit against our acquisition criteria and knowing when to bring in leadership for a deeper look
Keep a disciplined CRM of every relationship and enquiry, so nothing falls through the cracks over a long, patient sales cycle
About you
5–10 years' experience in a relationship-led BD, advisory, or accounting/business-services role — ideally with existing runs on the board in the accounting, business broking, or SME community
Comfortable representing a company credibly to skilled advisers as a peer, and at ease working a trade show floor
Basic commercial and financial literacy to have an informed first conversation with a business owner — you don't need to be a dealmaker or financial modeller
Genuinely patient and relationship-oriented: you understand that succession decisions can take years, and you're comfortable investing in relationships long before they pay off
Organised and disciplined with follow-up — you don't let a lead or a relationship go cold
What's on offer
Base salary in the range of $130,000–$150,000, depending on experience
Performance bonus tied to relationship-building, referral quality and pipeline outcomes — not just activity volume
Travel and events budget to support trade show attendance and adviser relationship-building
The chance to build something real: a permanent-capital business with no fund clock, no forced exits, and a founder-first reputation you can be proud to represent
