We are seeking a capable and safety-focused Test Bay Technician to join our Power Transformer Test Bay team.

This is a hands-on technical role responsible for preparing, testing, and verifying power transformers before they are released to customers. You will work closely with Test Engineer, Engineering and Production teams to ensure testing is completed safely, accurately, to a high level of quality and in accordance with approved ITP’s, procedures, relevant standards, and customer requirements.

Key responsibilities

- Prepare power transformers and test equipment for type, routine, and special testing.
- Complete test connections in accordance with approved test plans and drawings.
- Conduct or assist with transformer testing, including but not limited to:
- Winding resistance
- Voltage ratio and vector group




- Insulation resistance
- Capacitance and power factor/tan delta
- No-load and load loss
- Applied and induced voltage

- Set up test instruments, temporary leads, earthing systems, barriers, and exclusion zones.
- Record test results accurately and assist with the preparation of test reports.
- Identify abnormal results and support the investigation of test failures.
- Inspect, maintain, and verify test equipment is serviceable and within calibration.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, transformer drawings, and test documentation.
- Work with Production and Engineering to resolve technical and quality issues.
- Assist with co-ordination to ensure timely testing requirements between all production work centres as required.
- Maintain a clean, controlled, and safe Test Bay.
- Follow all high-voltage access, and safe-working requirements.

About you

You will be a team player, methodical, safety-conscious, and comfortable working with complex electrical equipment. You will take pride in accurate work and understand the importance of following approved test methods without taking shortcuts.

Ideally, you will have:





- An Australian-recognised electrical trade qualification or relevant electrical engineering qualification.
- Experience working with power transformers, high-voltage equipment, or electrical testing.
- A sound understanding of electrical safety, isolation, earthing, and test-area controls.
- The ability to read electrical drawings and follow detailed test procedures.
- Solid fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
- Good computer skills and the ability to produce accurate test records.
- Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with Engineering, Production and Quality teams.
- A commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Experience with transformer test systems, partial-discharge measurement, high-voltage testing, or impulse testing will be highly regarded. Training can be provided to the right person with a strong electrical background and the right attitude.
