Allegra School Coffs Harbour is an independent, non-denominational Special Assistance School providing Stage 5 education for students in Years 9 and 10.

We are deliberately small. With approximately 84 students and classes capped at 14, we are able to know our young people well, respond when something is not working and shape learning around the individual.

Many of our students come to Allegra after mainstream schooling has become difficult or has no longer met their needs. Our role is not to provide an easier version of school. It is to provide a better-fitting one with high expectations, individualised support, strong relationships and opportunities for young people to rebuild confidence, agency and connection with learning.

About the role

We are seeking a Learning Support Officer to join our award winning Learning Support Team.

At Allegra, Learning Support Officers are much more than an extra person in the classroom.

You will work alongside teachers and under the leadership of the Leader of Student Strategy & Support to help students access learning, implement Individual Education Plans and approved adjustments, provide targeted support and contribute meaningful observations and evidence to student-support processes.

A key part of the role is knowing when to scaffold, when to step back and how to help a student experience success without creating dependence.

This role suits someone who can combine warmth and patience with consistency, professional boundaries, accurate follow-through and high expectations for young people.

What you’ll be doing

You will:

- provide direct learning support in literacy, numeracy, comprehension, executive functioning and student regulation;

- implement approved IEP strategies,



reasonable adjustments and targeted interventions;

- support students to use assistive technology and accessibility tools;

- support individual students and small groups while actively building independence;

- use trauma-informed, neuroinclusive and strengths-aware approaches;

- observe student response to strategies and provide useful feedback to teachers and the Leader of Student Strategy & Support;

- maintain accurate records of adjustments, interventions and student response in approved school systems;

- contribute evidence relevant to student-support and NCCD processes;

- actively supervise students in classrooms, during breaks, excursions and other school activities;

- work collaboratively with teachers, Learning Support colleagues, wellbeing staff, families and relevant external professionals; and

- participate in professional learning, coaching and development.

The role implements approved plans and strategies but does not independently approve IEPs or adjustments, determine NCCD classifications, provide counselling or make formal behaviour or disciplinary decisions.

Approved adjustments and strategies are implemented consistently. Records are accurate and useful. Teachers and the Leader of Student Strategy & Support can rely on your observations and follow-through.





You notice when support needs to change and raise it through the right pathway. You remain calm, respectful and predictable, and contribute to a coordinated Learning Support Team focused on student access, participation and independence.

Learning Support Officers participate in skilled learning relevant to trauma-informed practice, neurodevelopmental needs, Universal Design for Learning, assistive technology and other evidence-based approaches relevant to our students.

Classification and remuneration

The position is covered by the Independent Schools NSW (Professional and Operational Staff) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025 as a Classroom Support Services Employee.

The appointment is expected to fall within Level 2 or Level 3.

2027 FTE salary range: $71,893 – $76,008 plus superannuation.

Final classification will be determined having regard to the successful applicant's skills and qualifications, with relevant experience also informing the School's assessment of the applicable level.
