About the role

We are seeking an experienced General Manager to join Emerald Mitre 10 Home & Trade in Emerald, QLD on a full-time basis. This is a strategic leadership position that plays a pivotal role in driving the overall performance, profitability and growth of our retail operation. As General Manager, you will be responsible for the complete management of the store, overseeing all aspects of operations, financial performance, team leadership and customer experience. This role offers an excellent opportunity to lead a energetic team in a thriving regional community and make a significant impact on the business. The General Manager reports directly to the Board of the Emerald Co-operative Society Ltd.

Key responsibilities

- Providing strategic leadership and direction to all store operations and team members, ensuring alignment with Mitre 10 corporate objectives and values
- Managing financial performance, including budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management and achieving sales and profitability targets
- Overseeing merchandising, inventory management and stock control to ensure optimal product availability and minimise wastage
- Recruiting, training, developing and motivating a high-performing team across all departments
- Ensuring exceptional customer service standards are consistently maintained across all customer touchpoints
- Managing health, safety and compliance requirements in accordance with relevant legislation and company policies




- Developing and implementing strategies to drive sales growth, market share and customer loyalty within the Emerald region
- Maintaining effective relationships with suppliers, contractors and community stakeholders
- Overseeing store maintenance, merchandising displays and the overall condition of the facility
- Reporting regularly to the Board on store performance, challenges and opportunities

What we're looking for

- Proven experience as a General Manager or similar senior management role within retail, home improvement or trade supplies environments
- Strong financial acumen with demonstrated ability to manage P&L; statements, budgets and achieve financial targets
- Excellent leadership and people management skills with a track record of building and motivating high-performing teams
- Strategic thinking capability combined with strong operational and tactical execution skills
- Customer-focused mindset with a commitment to delivering exceptional service and building customer relationships
- Knowledge of retail merchandising, inventory management and point-of-sale systems
- Strong understanding of health, safety and compliance requirements in retail environments
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to engage effectively with staff, customers and stakeholders
- Problem-solving ability and resilience to manage challenges in a fast-paced retail environment
- Relevant retail management qualifications or tertiary education in business or management would be advantageous
