Drive Digital
Queensland
Drive Digital is a Brisbane-based Shopify eCommerce agency specialising in designing, building and optimising high-performing online stores. We partner with brands of all sizes to create digital experiences that help merchants grow, scale and convert. Our team blends UX/UI design, custom development, platform migrations, integrations and performance optimisation to deliver tailored Shopify solutions that power business success.
Why this role matters
The merchants we work with are running complex Shopify Plus environments with multi-store setups, B2B, headless front ends, ERP and 3PL integrations, and subscription or loyalty stacks. They are asking us to tell them what to build and why, not just to manage the build.
We need someone who can sit in front of a senior client, understand their commercial position, shape the solution with our senior team, scope it properly, build the parts that do not need a developer, and hold the technical quality of everything we ship. You are the person our developers come to when a requirement is ambiguous and our clients come to when a solution is required.
What you’ll do
Solution design and architecture
- Contribute to the solution design for complex Shopify Plus builds, migrations and integrations, working with our senior team rather than in isolation
- Bring client and commercial context into architectural decisions on multi-store, B2B, headless and API-driven work, and document what is agreed so the team can execute against it
- Interrogate third-party apps and middleware properly rather than taking vendor claims at face value
- Own technical feasibility on the work you scope
Hands‑on implementation
- Configure and deliver the no‑code parts of a solution end to end yourself: Shopify Admin configuration, app setup and integration, metafields and metaobjects, theme and template settings, discounts, Markets, B2B and checkout configuration
- Take those pieces from requirement to live without handing them to a developer
- Own data migration and remapping on replatforming and integration projects: audit and clean source data, map products, variants, collections, customers, orders and content into Shopify’s structure, and run the imports and validation yourself
- Brief and coordinate the development team on the custom pieces, and hold the standard of what comes back
- Understand the whole solution as one thing, including how your configuration and their code depend on each other, and be accountable for it working
Technical scoping
- Write the functional and technical specifications our developers build from
- Break complex requirements into estimable work, challenge unrealistic estimates in both directions,
and hold the line on scope once it is agreed
- Identify the upstream risk in a brief before it becomes a budget overrun or a rebuild
Project delivery and management
- Own end-to-end delivery of your projects: scope, schedule, budget, resourcing and outcome
- Plan and sequence work across design, development and QA, and manage the dependencies between your own configuration work and the custom development around it
- Run the day to day properly: task and sprint management in ClickUp, time and budget tracking in Harvest, transparent status reporting to clients and internally
- Manage change requests and scope creep, raising variations early rather than absorbing them into the budget
- Identify and elevate risk before it affects timeline, cost or quality
- Review developer output and coordinate QA and UAT against the specification, not just against the ticket
- Own the release process through to go‑live and post‑launch support
- Mentor project managers on technical scoping, estimation and delivery discipline
- Act as a senior technical contact on key accounts, working alongside the Director and Head of Delivery
- Contribute to ecommerce and platform strategy for key accounts: where the store should go next, what will move conversion and retention, and what is not worth building
- Help shape Shopify roadmaps that connect to the client’s commercial goals rather than a backlog of requests
- Bring an informed point of view on replatforming, expansion and consolidation decisions
- Translate commercial objectives into platform decisions, and platform constraints into language clients can act on
- Surface opportunities worth pursuing, and say clearly when a client’s priority order is working against their own goals
- Hold clear conversations about cost, trade‑offs and timing, and be believed when you do
- Manage multiple senior stakeholders with competing priorities, internally and client‑side
- Represent Drive Digital’s technical position to clients, partners and vendors
Who you are
- Minimum five years hands‑on Shopify experience (required). Agency‑side or in a senior in‑house ecommerce role, on complex builds rather than a volume of small projects
- Substantial Shopify Plus experience in a technical capacity: configuring the platform yourself,
scoping integrations, specifying custom development and contributing to architectural decisions
- You implement, not just direct. You configure and deliver the no‑code and low‑code parts of a solution yourself, end to end, and you are comfortable being measured on that output
- You hold the whole picture. You can carry a full solution in your head across configuration, custom development, integrations and data, and see where the pieces will not meet before they are built
- Technically fluent enough to hold a developer to account. You can read Liquid, work with Shopify’s Admin and Storefront APIs, understand webhooks, metafields and metaobjects, and reason about data flow between Shopify and external systems. You do not need to ship production code, but you need to know when a developer’s approach is wrong and be able to say why
- Solution design experience. You have shaped Shopify Plus solutions end to end, working alongside other senior people, and owned the outcome including the parts that went wrong
- Senior client credibility. You have advised at executive or founder level on decisions with real commercial consequence, and held your position under pressure
- Commercial judgement. You understand agency economics, scope risk and where margin is won or lost, and you price and scope accordingly
- Direct and clear. You raise problems early, you do not soften bad news into ambiguity, and you write specifications people can actually build from
Extra points if you have
- Experience with Shopify Plus B2B, Shopify POS, Markets, Functions, checkout extensibility or multi‑store architecture
- Depth in the app and integration ecosystem: subscriptions, ERP and 3PL connections, PIM, loyalty, search and merchandising, middleware such as Celigo or Alloy
- Platform migration experience, particularly from Magento, BigCommerce or bespoke builds
- Working knowledge of ecommerce performance data: conversion rate, AOV, retention, LTV, and Shopify Analytics or GA4
- CRO or experimentation experience, and the ability to argue for a change with evidence rather than opinion
- Familiarity with ClickUp, Harvest, Figma and Slack
- Ecommerce SEO fundamentals and how theme architecture affects performance and discoverability
What you’ll love about working here
- Flexible hybrid working (2–3 days per week in office)
- Competitive salary + bonus structure
- Option for a 9-day fortnight after probation
- Real leadership opportunity in a growing eCommerce agency
- A collaborative team where your expertise shapes how we deliver excellence
- Clear progression path as the agency grows
