Byron Shire Council
New South Wales
Be at the centre of making significant events happen smoothly across Byron Shire.
We’re looking for an Events Facilitation Officer to be a key connection point between event organisers and Council, helping external events navigate Council requirements and progress from early planning through to successful delivery. Rather than delivering events, you’ll coordinate and facilitate the Council side of the process, bringing together the right people, requirements and approvals to support events being delivered safely, responsibly and in accordance with Council-approved processes.
You’ll work closely with event organisers, Council teams, venues, businesses and community partners, helping to coordinate requirements across areas such as approvals, traffic and transport, waste, public safety, accessibility, communications and environmental considerations.
With a particular focus on Easter 2027 planning and coordination, you’ll also help identify opportunities for complementary place activation and broader community, business and visitor benefits.
If you’re highly organised, confident navigating processes and great at bringing people together to achieve a shared outcome, this could be the opportunity for you!
Note: This is a 12-month term position, working part-time (21 hours per week). Possibility of extension
What you’ll be doing
As a central coordination point for externally organised events, you’ll:
- Guide and support event organisers in navigating relevant Council processes, requirements and responsibilities.
- Coordinate Council’s internal response to events, ensuring the right teams are involved and actions, dependencies and timeframes remain on track.
- Facilitate planning meetings between event organisers, Council teams and other key stakeholders.
- Help coordinate requirements relating to approvals, Council land and facilities, traffic and transport, waste, public safety, accessibility, communications and environmental considerations.
- Monitor Council deliverables, follow up outstanding actions and elevate emerging risks, delays or competing requirements where needed.
- Build productive relationships with event organisers, venues, business groups, destination partners and community stakeholders.
- Identify opportunities for complementary place activation, wayfinding, visitor servicing, business participation and public-space improvements.
- Contribute to post-event reviews and improvements to Council’s event procedures, templates and processes.
What we look for
You’ll be a natural facilitator who can confidently work between event organisers and Council, balancing great customer service with the need to ensure processes, requirements and responsibilities are clearly understood. Ideally, you’ll bring:
- Qualifications and/ or demonstrated experience in event management, project management, arts and culture or a related field.
- Strong project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple workstreams, stakeholders, actions and deadlines.
- Experience with events in public spaces and an understanding of the approvals, compliance, risk and operational considerations involved.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills and the ability to build constructive relationships across different teams, organisations and community groups.
- Confidence interpreting processes and requirements and translating these into clear, practical guidance for event organisers.
- A proactive approach to identifying issues early, coordinating solutions and escalating risks when required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, sound judgement and excellent attention to detail.
- The ability to work independently while contributing positively within a collaborative team.
- A current Driver’s License.
Highly regarded:
- Experience with local government processes and contractor management.
We offer:
- 12-month term position, working part-time (21 hours per week). Possibility of extension.
- Salary and Conditions will be in accordance with the NSW Local Government (State) Award with an appointment in the range of $40.10 to $46.47 per hour (dependent upon skills and experience).
- 12% Superannuation.
Other benefits include:
- Annual salary reviews.
- Employee Assistance Program (4 sessions per year).
- Education and training support.
- Fitness Passport.
- Work with a great team who all support each other.
- Partner with an organisation that is taking steps in all areas to reduce our carbon emissions and be an innovative and sustainable council.

This position is based at Mullumbimby; however, Council can require you to work from other work sites as required for operational reasons.
