About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Welder/Fabricator with fitting and machining experience to join the team.

This is a hands‑on workshop-based role suited to someone with a strong background in MIG welding, fabrication, and mechanical fitting, along with experience using manual lathes and milling machines.

You will be involved in the repair, refurbishment, fabrication, and maintenance of rail components, including railway wheels, wheelsets, and associated assemblies. The ability to carry out basic to intermediate machining work will be highly regarded.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform MIG welding and general fabrication of rail components and associated assemblies.
- Fabricate, repair, modify, and refurbish steel and mechanical components.
- Use workshop equipment including grinders, cutting equipment, presses, drills, and other fabrication tools.
- Set up and operate manual lathes and milling machines for machining, repair, and modification of components.
- Assist with the refurbishment and reconditioning of railway wheels, wheelsets, and associated parts.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, workshop drawings, and specifications.
- Carry out fitting, assembly, alignment, and mechanical repairs as required.
- Conduct inspections, measurements, and quality checks using precision measuring equipment.
- Maintain workshop machinery, tooling, and equipment to a high standard.




- Ensure all work is completed safely and in accordance with company procedures and relevant rail industry standards.

About You

We are looking for a practical, hands‑on tradesperson who takes pride in quality workmanship and can work independently as well as part of a small team.

You will ideally have:

- Proven experience in MIG welding and fabrication.
- Experience in mechanical fitting, maintenance, or repair.
- Some experience operating manual lathes and milling machines.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Understanding of fabrication, machining, tolerances, and general workshop practices.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
- A positive, can‑do attitude and willingness to get involved across a range of workshop tasks.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a small team.
- A robust commitment to workplace health and safety.
