Structural Steel – Workshop / Drafting / Estimating Rocklea, Brisbane | $90,000 – $120,000 + Super | Permanent

About the Role Our client is a well-established structural steel fabrication and engineering business based in Rocklea, specialising in modular and prefabricated construction.

With an established team of four Estimators already in place, this isn't about finding another traditional Estimator.
We're looking for someone who genuinely understands structural steel fabrication and the workshop environment – someone who can read drawings, understands how steel is detailed and fabricated, and knows how a job moves from drawing through to the workshop floor.

You may currently be working in drafting, estimating, fabrication, project coordination or workshop/production support and looking for an opportunity to broaden your commercial and estimating experience.
You'll work closely with the existing estimating team, production, purchasing and projects, with plenty of support to develop the estimating side of your skillset.

What You'll Be Doing

- Review and interpret structural steel drawings, plans and specifications
- Complete quantity and material take-offs
- Assist with labour, material and subcontractor costings
- Apply practical workshop and fabrication knowledge when assessing jobs
- Understand fabrication requirements, processes and potential production challenges
- Liaise with drafting, production, purchasing and project teams
- Obtain and compile supplier and subcontractor pricing
- Assist with quotations, tenders and bid documentation
- Maintain estimating information, registers and documentation




- Support project handovers from estimating into production
- Develop your commercial and estimating capability alongside experienced Estimators

About You We're particularly interested in people who bring practical structural steel knowledge, rather than someone whose experience has been purely office-based estimating.
Ideally, you'll have:

- Strong knowledge of structural steel fabrication and estimation.
- A good understanding of a steel fabrication workshop environment
- Drafting experience or a strong ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings
- An understanding of how structural steel moves from drafting/detailing through to fabrication
- Experience with take-offs, estimating, quoting or project coordination would be advantageous
- Manufacturing or engineering experience
- Positive Excel and general systems capability
- Strong attention to detail and a practical, commercial mindset
