Overview

As a Data Analytics Specialist at LGAQ, you will be responsible for developing digital solutions addressing the challenges faced by our members and internal teams. Using Agile methodology, we collaborate with all relevant stakeholders to understand the requirements and deliver solutions in an iterative manner.

The team provides data, analytics and business optimisation services to all local government councils across Queensland. Our aim is to assist councils increase their data literacy and maturity, in particular regarding data management and visualisation. This ranges from process optimisation, data analysis and creating visual dashboards to development of machine learning, AI and predictive analytics capabilities. We also provide education and upskilling for our stakeholders.

Some out of hours work may be required with this role.

This is a full time role based in Newstead, Qld. Occasional air and road travel may be required, including driving a hire vehicle unaccompanied at times. A current Queensland open driver’s licence, with the ability to drive day or night and comply with any licence conditions, is required.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide actionable insights and answers to complex business problems using advanced data analytics techniques and tools.
- Design, develop, test and deploy analytics solutions, process improvements and automations for internal and external stakeholders.
- Contribute to the design and development of corporate data platforms, architecture and processes
- Manage, maintain and secure analytics solutions, tooling and platforms in use across the organisation




- Contribute to the organisation’s efforts for optimisation through predictive and prescriptive analytics.
- Communicate analysis, insights and findings with relevant stakeholders in an engaging data storyteller manner.
- Contribute to the analytics strategy and roadmap and help drive projects to implementation.
- Document as built solutions, data mappings, business glossaries and processes
- Review deliverables for accuracy and quality and produce test summary reports where appropriate.
- Provide out of hours support of production critical processes as required.
- Adhere to all workplace relevant legislation and LGAQ policies.
- Contribute to the LGAQ culture through application of the CARE Behaviours and participation in workplace activities.
- Fly and/or drive to member sites or other locations on occasion as required.

Key Capabilities

- Solid business and data analysis skills and problem-solving abilities.
- A collegiate approach to working with, and listening to colleagues and a passion for working with people in a team-based approach.
- Demonstrated experience programming in SQL, Python and/or R.
- Demonstrated experience with cloud-based data platforms and services, particularly Microsoft Azure, Microsoft Fabric, Power BI, Snowflake and AWS.
- Demonstrated experience developing solutions with the Microsoft Power Platform, including Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse and Power BI.




- Demonstrated ability to think critically and act proactively.
- Able to prioritise and execute tasks in tight timeframes with a keen attention to detail.
- Experience working in Agile methodology.
- A current Queensland unrestricted open driver’s licence including the ability to drive unaccompanied day or night and comply with licence conditions.
- Ability to travel as required.
