An established Australian structural steel and engineering business is looking for an experienced Senior Estimator to join its Brisbane team.

This is not a role where you'll simply sit behind a desk pricing drawings.
We're looking for an experienced structural steel estimator who can own the full estimating process, work directly with clients, price complex and high-value projects and play an active role in turning tenders into profitable work.

You'll have plenty of autonomy, a strong existing team around you and the opportunity to influence bid strategy while mentoring developing estimators.

The Role
Reporting to the Lead Estimator and working closely with senior management, project delivery and the wider estimating team, you'll take ownership of a broad portfolio of structural steel opportunities.

You'll be responsible for:

- Leading estimates for complex and high-value structural steel projects
- Managing tenders from initial enquiry through pricing, submission, negotiation and handover
- Reviewing drawings, specifications, scope and project requirements
- Preparing accurate labour, material, fabrication and installation estimates
- Identifying commercial risks, exclusions and scope opportunities
- Developing competitive bid and pricing strategies
- Managing your own portfolio and tender pipeline
- Working directly with clients throughout the estimating process
- Attending client meetings, tender interviews and post-tender negotiations
- Building strong relationships with builders and other construction stakeholders
- Following up tenders and gathering win/loss feedback
- Leading detailed handovers into project delivery
- Reviewing estimates prepared by junior team members
- Mentoring junior and cadet estimators
- Working closely with project management, drafting, workshop and leadership teams
- Helping improve estimating processes, accuracy and conversion rates

This is a genuinely end-to-end estimating position, with the autonomy to run complex projects with minimal oversight.





About You
We're looking for someone who knows structural steel estimating and understands that winning good work isn't simply about being the cheapest.

You'll ideally bring:

- Extensive structural steel estimating experience
- Experience pricing complex and high-value construction projects
- Strong understanding of structural steel fabrication and installation
- Ability to confidently interpret drawings, specifications and tender documentation
- Strong commercial judgement and negotiation skills
- Experience managing tenders from enquiry through to award and handover
- Confidence dealing directly with clients
- Established relationships within structural steel and/or construction would be highly regarded
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior estimators
- Experience with Strumis or similar estimating software
- Strong take-off software capability
- Current White Card
- A proactive, commercially minded approach

Most importantly, you'll be someone who can take ownership. You won't need somebody looking over your shoulder on every tender – you'll have the experience and judgement to know what needs to happen and when to escalate something.
