About the role

The work will involve travelling to communities, filming interviews, gathering vision and photographs, recording good sound and helping us find and tell strong community stories. Depending on your experience, you may work independently on smaller stories or alongside experienced filmmakers on larger productions. There will be opportunities to develop your skills in interviewing, documentary storytelling, camera, sound, editing and the complete production process. The work may include documentaries, community stories, health and wellbeing projects, cultural projects and stories about people, Country and community.

About you

- Is Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander
- Is based in and currently living in Darwin
- Preferably a recent graduate with a degree or tertiary qualification in journalism, media, communications, film, screen production or a related field
- Has experience working with Aboriginal people and communities
- Is culturally respectful and comfortable sitting down and having a yarn with people
- Is comfortable travelling to and working in remote locations




- Has a current driver's licence and is comfortable travelling and driving in regional and remote areas
- Has some practical experience shooting video, photography, interviews or digital content
- Understands the basics of interviewing and telling a positive story
- Is reliable, organised and able to work independently

About us

BushTV is owned and operated by Tom Hearn, an award-winning Australian documentary filmmaker who has spent more than 20 years working with First Nations organisations and communities, including extensive work in remote Australia. Tom established BushTV in 2003 with a focus on documentary and community storytelling. His work has taken him into communities across Australia, working alongside Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to tell stories about culture, Country, health, community and the issues that matter to people locally. Tom holds a Master of Arts in Documentary and is a recipient of a Queensland Government Reconciliation Award. His work has included the long-running Murri Minute series, which produced 100 short films over three years, alongside documentaries, community films and storytelling projects with First Nations organisations across Australia. BushTV's approach is built around relationships, listening and spending time with people. We believe the strongest stories come from sitting down, having a yarn and allowing people to tell their stories in their own way.
