About the Role:
Our Client, a leading educational institution, is seeking an Azure Cloud Engineer to join their IT and Cyber Security team in Canberra. This is an initial 6-month contract with a possible 12-month extension, located in Canberra with 3 days per week in the office.

The University is delivering against a 10-year Digital Master Plan, with significant investment in digital transformation, cloud capability, data and emerging technologies including AI. As part of this ongoing program, the University is expanding its cloud and AI capabilities and is seeking an experienced Azure Cloud Engineer to help deliver secure, scalable and innovative technology solutions.

The successful candidate will join the Data Governance, Architecture & Innovation team and work closely with a newly established architecture function to support strategic initiatives under the University's Digital Master Plan. You will play a hands-on role in building and operationalising Azure cloud environments that support AI, analytics, digital health and secure research initiatives.

As the selected candidate, you will:

- Design, implement and maintain secure, scalable and resilient cloud environments, primarily within Microsoft Azure.
- Build and maintain Infrastructure-as-Code solutions using Terraform or similar technologies.
- Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using platforms such as Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Enable the deployment and operation of AI/ML services, APIs, analytics platforms and secure data pipelines.
- Partner with software developers and data scientists to operationalise digital tools, AI applications and workflows.
- Implement cloud security, identity and access management,



monitoring, backup and disaster recovery best practices.
- Support secure research data environments and digital health applications.
- Monitor cloud performance, reliability and utilisation to support optimisation and cost management.
- Work with architects, researchers, Microsoft/industry partners, technical teams and external stakeholders to deliver robust cloud solutions.
- Provide technical input into infrastructure planning and contribute to the University's broader digital transformation initiatives.
- Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures and system architecture records.
- Work effectively within a multidisciplinary environment, demonstrating initiative and the ability to work independently.

To be successful in this role you should have:

- Minimum 3+ years' experience in cloud engineering, infrastructure deployment or DevOps roles.
- Robust hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-native infrastructure.
- Demonstrated experience with Terraform or similar Infrastructure-as-Code tools.
- Experience developing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines, ideally using Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
- Experience with AI/ML deployment, MLOps, data engineering or secure platform operations.
- Strong understanding of cloud security, identity and access management, monitoring and governance.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to work effectively across multidisciplinary teams.
- Ability to work independently and take ownership of technical outcomes in a developing environment.
- Relevant Azure certifications such as Azure Solutions Architect, Azure DevOps Engineer,



or similar would be advantageous.

It is desirable if you have:

- Experience with AKS/Kubernetes and containerised workloads.
- Experience designing or implementing Azure AI Landing Zones.
- Experience with Azure AI Foundry or similar Azure AI services.
- Experience supporting digital health, health informatics or research infrastructure environments.
- Experience working with AI/ML platforms and operationalising AI workloads in Azure.
