Join the Team at Derwent Estate Wines – Sales & Area Manager
Nestled on the banks of the Derwent River, just 20 minutes north of Hobart, Derwent Estate is a proudly family-owned and operated winery producing award-winning cool-climate wines. Our vineyard, with its distinctive calcium-rich soils, is one of a select number in Tasmania to be certified organic. We employ circular farming practices across the property, guided by a philosophy of working gently with the land and allowing the character of our site to find its expression in the wines.
At the heart of the estate is our heritage-listed 1820 limestone cottage Cellar Door, offering an authentic Tasmanian wine experience. Our onsite restaurant, The Shed, serves lunch Thursday to Sunday and hosts regular events throughout the year.
We’re now looking for a motivated and dynamic Sales & Area Manager to join our passionate team and help drive the next stage of Derwent Estate’s growth across Tasmania. We expect this role to commence in the new year.
The Role
As Sales & Area Manager, you’ll manage and develop an established client portfolio while actively growing new business across both on-premise and retail accounts throughout Tasmania.
This is a relationship-led sales role, but also an opportunity to be proactive in the market: identifying new venues and opportunities, staying connected to developments across wine and hospitality, and looking for creative ways to build the presence of Derwent Estate with customers and consumers.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and maintain strong, lasting relationships with existing clients
- Identify and pursue new sales opportunities across on-premise and retail channels
- Develop a strong understanding of Tasmania’s hospitality and retail landscape and identify emerging opportunities for the brand
- Stay informed about wine, hospitality and consumer trends, bringing relevant ideas and insights back into the business
- Represent Derwent Estate confidently in market and help build awareness and engagement with the brand
- Host customer tastings, staff training, wine dinners and other events
- Manage customer orders through to fulfilment, proactively coordinating deliveries and resolving any issues
- Respond to client needs and manage issues promptly and professionally
- Accurately maintain customer information and sales activity in our CRM (HubSpot)
- Prepare monthly and annual sales forecasts and reports
- Work collaboratively with the broader team and provide hands-on support across the business when needed.
About You
You’ll bring:
- A genuine passion for wine and the wine industry
- Previous sales experience, ideally within wine, hospitality or a related industry
- A strong understanding of, and interest in, the hospitality and F&B; landscape
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- A proven ability to meet or exceed sales targets
- Commercial awareness and an ability to identify new opportunities rather than simply manage an existing territory
- An interest in current wine, hospitality and consumer trends
- Initiative, independence and the ability to manage competing priorities
- Confidence with technology and CRM systems, with HubSpot experience a bonus
- A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel regularly throughout Tasmania
- A collaborative, ‘pitch-in’ mindset suited to a small, hands-on team.
What We Offer
- Market-competitive salary package
- Company vehicle, laptop and mobile phone
- Wine allocation and generous staff discounts
- Flexible working arrangements
- A supportive, down-to-earth team culture
- The opportunity to contribute across a growing, values-driven business
- The chance to work with an established Tasmanian wine brand with existing distribution, loyal customers and significant potential for further growth.
If you’re a natural relationship-builder with a passion for wine, a strong understanding of hospitality and the drive to seek out new opportunities, we’d love to hear from you.
Please apply with your resume and a covering letter detailing your interest in this role along with any plans to relocate to Tasmania if not already here.
