We are a boutique law firm specialising in insurance, civil, and common law (defendant) personal injury litigation.
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented casual paralegal to join our dynamic team, working 2-3 days per week (14-21 hours). The role is primarily remote with occasional in-person attendances at an office, in town, or at court to assist solicitors and barristers.
Ideal candidates will be studying law, and have prior experience as a paralegal in a litigation firm. You will take instructions and gain valuable knowledge/skills directly from the firm's principal(s).
Key Responsibilities:
- Assisting lawyers with the day to day running of matters, including litigation.
- Providing general administrative support to the legal team.
- Assisting to manage case files and maintain accurate records.
- Drafting simple correspondence, including letters and emails, to other law firms, barristers, experts, court personnel, etc.
- Summarising expert reports and important documents.
- Liaising with third-party service providers (experts, process servers, photocopying agents, couriers, courts, etc).
- Attendance at court and settlement conferences.
- Participation in video and telephone conferences with experts, witnesses, and other personnel, including to take and prepare statements.
- File and storage maintenance.
- Drafting subpoenas and other court documents.
- Arranging and coordinating medicolegal appointments, mediations, settlement conferences, other appointments, meetings, and conferences, etc.
- Online court filing.
- Troubleshooting minor IT and equipment issues.
Required/Preferred Skills:
- Previous paralegal or legal secretary experience in a litigation practice.
- Strong organisational skills with excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to work as part of a team and take instructions.
- Excellent typing and grammar skills.
- Good IT knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Adobe (PDF).
- Proactive, driven, and well-presented.
- Familiarity with Open Practice and/or Worldox would be an advantage (but not required).
