The Australian Institute of Architects Foundation is seeking an experienced architect to join its Board as a Non-Executive Director.The Foundation is the charitable arm of the Royal Australian Institute of Architects. Through education, research, scholarships, exhibitions and community initiatives, it promotes artistic and technical excellence in architecture for the advantage of Australian communities.

Following a significant review in 2026, the Foundation is entering a new phase of growth and renewal. We are seeking a Director who can bring architectural expertise, skilled leadership and a commitment to advancing architecture’s contribution to society.

As a member of the Board, you will contribute to strategic direction, governance, risk oversight and financial sustainability, while helping to strengthen the Foundation’s profile, reach and impact. Directors are expected to actively support fundraising activities, donor engagement and partnerships that align with the Foundation’s charitable purpose.

We are seeking candidates who bring:
Registration as an architectAICD qualifications or substantial experience serving on not-for-profit boards




Knowledge of charity governance and regulatory obligations
Well-established networks within the architectural profession
Experience building relationships with donors, sponsors, partners or community stakeholders
A willingness to act as an ambassador for the Foundation and support its fundraising and development activities
A commitment to architecture’s role in creating positive community outcome

Appointment details
Volunteer position
Three-year term
Four to five Board meetings each year
One in-person meeting annually, with remaining meetings held online
Active participation in fundraising, stakeholder engagement and Foundation activities

The Foundation is seeking several new Directors and welcomes applications from candidates with diverse skills, backgrounds and perspectives. Applications from regional and remote Australia and people with experience in First Nations engagement and reconciliation are encouraged.
