This role plays a vital part in maintaining the condition and appearance of Council's assets and infrastructure across the municipality.You will be responsible for operating heavy machinery and supporting a wide range of civil construction and road maintenance activities.
The role requires a strong understanding of road maintenance procedures and a commitment to safety, quality, and teamwork.Key ResponsibilitiesCivil Construction and Road Maintenance:Assist with maintenance and repair of roads, footpaths, kerbs, channels, and drainage infrastructureSupport concreting, asphalting, and bluestone worksOperate heavy machinery for tasks including excavation, grading, levelling, material spreading, compaction, and site clean-upRespond to reactive maintenance requests and address safety hazardsMaintain accurate records of work completed and equipment usageAssist with traffic management and site safety setupsEnsure plant and equipment are secured at the end of each workdaySignage and Street Furniture Maintenance:Inspect and maintain street signage and furniture for safety and appearancePerform installation,



cleaning, and repair worksIdentify and program areas for ongoing maintenanceOperational Duties:Complete daily plant inspection sheets and activity logsReport asset maintenance needs, street cleansing issues, or graffiti observed during dutiesEnsure compliance with Council's Road Management Plan response timeframeComplete data entry and manage work schedules and job allocations.What We're Looking ForExperience in civil construction, including asphalt, concrete, and bluestone worksProficiency in operating heavy machinery (e.g., excavators, skid steers)An understanding of work schedule programming and work order processes.Strong understanding of safety procedures and site protocolsAbility to work collaboratively in a team environmentHR licence and traffic management qualifications (preferred)Yarra City Council is a progressive and inclusive organisation that values diversity and invests in the development of its people.
