A Vital Part of the Community
The City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder is seeking an experienced and community-minded Chef to coordinate kitchen operations and deliver high-quality meals, catering and food services at the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre.
At the heart of this role is the Centre's In-Centre Meals program, along with catering support for community programs, events and functions.
You will plan and prepare seasonal menus, maintain high standards of food quality and safety, coordinate kitchen staff, manage stock and suppliers and help create a welcoming dining experience for the community.
This is an excellent opportunity for a capable Chef who enjoys working with people, leading a small kitchen team and using their culinary skills to make a genuine contribution to the local community.
About the role
Reporting to the Coordinator Community Services, you will be responsible for:
Planning, preparing, cooking and presenting seasonal menus for the In Centre Meals program, events and functions
Costing menus and supporting the efficient use of fresh ingredients




Coordinating kitchen staff, including training and rostering
Maintaining consistently high standards of food quality, presentation and customer service
Managing food ordering, stock control and stocktakes
Liaising with suppliers, coordinating deliveries and resolving supply issues
Ensuring compliance with food safety, hygiene and workplace health and safety requirements
Maintaining temperature records, cleaning processes and opening and closing procedures
Working closely with City staff to coordinate catering for programs, bookings, events and community activities
Supporting kitchen operations across other City facilities when required.
The position has direct supervisory responsibility for the Cook and Kitchen Hands and is primarily based at the Eastern Goldfields Community Centre, with support provided across other City facilities as required.
About you
You will be an organised and practical kitchen professional who can work autonomously, lead others and maintain high standards in a busy community-service workplace.
To be successful, you will bring:
A relevant qualification in hospitality, commercial cookery, food handling or menu planning
A minimum of three years' demonstrated experience working as a Chef
Experience with menu preparation, menu costing and stock ordering
Solid food hygiene and workplace health and safety knowledge
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
The ability to work effectively to deadlines
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
The ability to lead a team while also working collaboratively
Initiative, sound judgement and practical problem-solving skills




A Food Safety Supervisor skill set certificate
A Senior First Aid certificate
A current satisfactory National Police Clearance
A current Western Australian C Class driver's licence.
