About the job APS6 Senior Data Scientist ? Sydney | Canberra | Melbourne ? Contract Opportunity We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Scientist (APS6 level) to join a high-performing analytics and data team within a large federal government setting.
This is a technically focused role offering autonomy, influence, and the opportunity to apply advanced data science and AI techniques to complex, real-world challenges.
You will work across multidisciplinary teams to deliver impactful analytical solutions that support strategic programs and initiatives.
Key Responsibilities Research and implement innovative data science, AI and statistical techniques to address complex business challenges Design and develop statistical, mathematical and machine learning models Deliver advanced analytics solutions to support strategic initiatives and new product development Undertake ad hoc modelling and analytical requests to support executive priorities Collaborate across teams and build strong stakeholder relationships Present insights and technical findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences Contribute to program planning,



project management and policy development where required About You Minimum 4+ years' experience as a Data Scientist in public or private sector environments Strong Python or R programming skills, including data manipulation, modelling and deployment Demonstrated experience applying AI and advanced data science techniques Proficiency in SQL and working with databases or cloud storage (e.g. AWS S3) Exposure to Large Language Models, Generative AI and their practical applications Understanding of AI assurance, governance and ethical AI frameworks Experience engaging and managing complex internal or external stakeholders Strong written and verbal communication skills Additional Requirements Australian Citizenship is required Labour hire licence requirements apply for ACT, VIC and QLD (where applicable) If you would like to find out more about this role, please feel free to reach out to Aliza Yau on ************************* or ************.
