About the role Looking for a career that makes a real impact?
As a Welder, you'll help maintain and renew Victoria's rail network through specialised welding, track maintenance, and infrastructure renewal activities.
Working across diverse locations throughout Victoria, you'll play a key role in delivering safe, reliable rail services while contributing to essential infrastructure projects.
This is a remote-based role with no fixed depot location, offering variety, travel, and the opportunity to work alongside a skilled and supportive team on critical rail infrastructure.
About you You are a qualified, safety-focused Welder who enjoys hands-on work and takes pride in delivering high-quality outcomes.
With experience in rail infrastructure, maintenance, or a similar heavy industry environment, you bring strong technical skills, a commitment to secure work practices, and the ability to work effectively within a team.
Adaptable and self-motivated, you're comfortable travelling across Victoria and working away from home when required to support critical rail maintenance and renewal programs.
Key Accountabilities include but are not limited to: Carry out specialised rail infrastructure maintenance and renewal activities, ensuring work is completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard.
Participate in the replacement and renewal of track and level crossing components, including sleepers, rail,



ballast, and fastening systems.
Perform aluminothermic welding, track distressing, and rail head repair activities in accordance with industry standards and operational requirements.
Operate welding equipment, tools, and vehicles safely and effectively to support maintenance and project delivery across the network.
Maintain a safe working environment for employees, customers, contractors, the community, and rail infrastructure by adhering to all safety requirements and procedures.
Support the implementation of environmental management plans and promote environmentally responsible work practices.
Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, fostering a strong culture of teamwork and collaboration.
Ensure compliance with all relevant rail safety, OH S, environmental, and legislative requirements, as well as internal policies and procedures.
Maintain current rail industry competencies, certifications, and safe working qualifications required to perform the role.
Travel and work across various locations throughout Victoria, including working away from home and participating in day, afternoon, or night shifts as required.
To be considered for this role, applicants must address the following key selection criteria within their application, as this forms part of our merit-based recruitment process: A Valid Victorian Full Drivers license is essential, as you will be required to travel occasionally (Mandatory) Current Medium Rail License (Mandatory) Certificate II Rail Infrastructure (Mandatory) Aluminothermic Welding Certificate including tensing.
TLIW**** Heat and cut materials using oxy-LPG equipment for the rail industry (mandatory) Safe Working Certificate Specialist licenses to operate equipment (TVO)

This position will be paid in line with the V/Line Asset Management Enterprise Agreement **** , IMW (TRACK) 2.2 .
