Experienced NDIS Support Worker

Wynnum, QLD | 24/7 SIL Home | 8-hour shifts + sleepovers
About the role n
We are looking for caring, compassionate and proactive support workers to join the team supporting a 68-year-old gentleman living with Huntington's Disease in his Wynnum home. This is a 24/7 Supported Independent Living (SIL) setting, with 8-hour shifts and sleepover shifts available across the week. Penalty rates apply for evenings, weekends, public holidays and sleepovers in line with the SCHADS Award.

About our participant n
Our participant is a kind, easy-going man who values consistency, patience and a calm approach to his daily routine. Huntington's Disease affects his movement, communication and daily living tasks, so he requires support workers who are observant, gentle and confident in providing hands-on care while still respecting his independence and choice.
What you'll be doing n
n
Providing personal care, including showering, dressing and toileting
n
Mealtime support, including meal preparation and assistance with eating and drinking (mindful of swallowing changes common with Huntington's)
n
Medication prompts and administration as per his support plan
n
Mobility support and safe transfers, with awareness of involuntary movements
n
Supporting him with hobbies, social activities and community access
n
Domestic duties – laundry, cleaning, tidying his home
n
Accurate documentation – shift notes, progress notes and incident reports
n
Sleepover shifts and overnight responsiveness as required
n
About you n
n

calm and respectful, especially whencommunication takes time
n
Reliable, punctual and committed to consistency for theparticipant
n
Clear spoken English is essential due to theparticipant's communication needs
n
Comfortable working independently in a home setting
n
Physically able to support secure transfers and personalcare
n
Essential requirements n
n
Previous experience as a support worker in the NDIS or disability sector
n
NDIS Worker Screening Check (or willingness to obtain)
n
Working with Children Check / Blue Card (QLD)
n
Current First Aid & CPR certificate
n
Australian driver's licence and reliable, registered, insured vehicle
n
Right to work in Australia
n
Comfortable using a smartphone for shift notes and rostering
n
Highly regarded n
n
Previous experience supporting someone with Huntington's Disease or another progressive neurological condition (e.g. Parkinson's, MND, MS)
n
Certificate III or IV in Individual Support, Disability or related field
n
Training in manual handling, medication administration, mealtime management and dysphagia support
n
NDIS New Worker Orientation Module completed
n
