We are seeking an experienced and skilled Chef to join our kitchen team on a full-time basis. The successful candidate will have experience in a busy commercial kitchen and be confident preparing a range of dishes while maintaining consistent standards during busy service periods.
About the Role
The Chef will be responsible for planning, preparing, cooking, and presenting a range of meals in accordance with the café's menu, recipes, and quality standards. The role involves selecting and preparing ingredients, developing and modifying dishes where required, monitoring food quality and presentation, and ensuring that kitchen operations comply with food safety and hygiene requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Plan and prepare daily food requirements based on the café's menu, anticipated customer demand, and service requirements.
Prepare, season, cook, and present a variety of breakfast, brunch, lunch, and café-style dishes.
Develop and refine recipes and menu items to maintain variety, quality, and consistency.
Determine appropriate quantities of ingredients required for food preparation and service.
Prepare ingredients using appropriate techniques, including cutting, chopping, slicing, marinating, portioning, and other preparation methods.
Cook food using a range of commercial cooking methods, including grilling, frying, baking, roasting, steaming, and sautéing.
Monitor the quality, taste, texture, temperature, and presentation of dishes throughout preparation and service.
Ensure meals are prepared and presented according to established recipes, portion requirements, and presentation standards.
Inspect the quality and freshness of ingredients and ensure ingredients are stored appropriately before and after preparation.
Assist with planning ingredient requirements and communicate stock and supply needs to management.
Assist with ordering and receiving food supplies and ensure deliveries are checked and stored appropriately.
Monitor food usage and portion sizes to assist with controlling food costs and minimising wastage.
Maintain appropriate stock rotation and storage practices for perishable and non-perishable ingredients.
Maintain clean and hygienic food preparation areas, cooking equipment, utensils, and storage facilities.
Ensure food preparation and cooking practices comply with applicable food safety, hygiene, and workplace health and safety requirements.
Coordinate preparation of multiple dishes during busy service periods to ensure meals are completed within required service times.
Work collaboratively with other kitchen staff to ensure food preparation and service requirements are met efficiently.
Skills and Experience
Relevant qualification in Commercial Cookery, such as Certificate III or IV, or equivalent relevant experience.
Previous experience working as a Chef in a commercial kitchen, café, restaurant, or similar food service environment.
Demonstrated knowledge of a range of cooking methods, food preparation techniques, and kitchen practices.
Experience preparing and presenting a variety of meals to a consistent standard.
Knowledge of food safety, hygiene, storage, and temperature control requirements.
Ability to plan and organise food preparation according to menu and service requirements.
Ability to work efficiently under pressure during busy service periods.
Good communication and teamwork skills.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to food quality and presentation.
Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.

Salary
$77,000 – $80,000 per annum + superannuation, depending on experience and skills.
