About the role n
We are seeking an experienced
AI Researcher
for an chance working with a federal government department. The role will focus on researching and developing AI/ML approaches, investigating emerging techniques, designing and conducting experiments, and evaluating model performance. You will collaborate with researchers, data scientists and software engineers to develop and implement AI/ML solutions based on research findings.

Key responsibilities n
n
Research and investigate AI/ML techniques and approaches relevant to real-world applications
n
Review and interpret academic research papers and emerging AI/ML techniques
n
Implement and experiment with algorithms and approaches from research papers
n
Design and conduct experiments to investigate and improve AI/ML models
n
Develop and fine-tune machine learning models using Python and relevant ML frameworks
n
Evaluate and benchmark model performance using appropriate metrics and comparative analysis
n
Analyse experimental results and identify opportunities for improvement
n
Work with large datasets, including data preparation, preprocessing and augmentation
n




Collaborate with software engineers to implement research findings into practical AI/ML solutions
n
Document research findings and contribute to technical reports and academic publications
n
Collaborate with researchers, data scientists and engineers throughout the research and implementation lifecycle
n
About you n
n
Experience in AI/ML research, applied research or a closely related field
n
Strong Python programming and machine learning experience
n
Experience implementing or adapting approaches from academic research papers
n
Strong understanding of machine learning algorithms and AI model architectures
n
Experience developing, fine-tuning and experimenting with ML models
n
Experience designing experiments and
evaluating/benchmarking
model performance
n
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
n
Experience with PyTorch and/or TensorFlow
n
Experience with areas such as computer vision, deep learning, Transformers, LLMs or generative AI
n
Experience with libraries such as NumPy, Hugging Face and/or Ultralytics would be highly relevant
n
Experience analysing experimental results and applying statistical or comparative analysis
n
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to document and present research findings
n
Experience contributing to research papers or academic publications would be advantageous
n
