This position sits within Victoria Legal Aid's Equality Law Program (ELP) and plays an important leadership role in our delivery of high quality, client-centred and trauma-informed legal services.

Full-time maximum term position to December ****

Salary range: $104,925 - $122,409 plus super
n
Up to $15,900 in salary packaging, flexible hybrid work arrangement

About the role n
This position operates within the Victims Legal Service (VLS), a collaborative initiative of the Victorian legal assistance sector. As a senior lawyer, you will provide high-quality legal services including legal advice, duty lawyer services, complex casework, representation, negotiation, dispute resolution and referrals with a focus on victim-survivors of crime, including working with victim-survivors of sexual assault, child abuse and family violence.

The areas of law your practice will cover include advising on rights in protecting confidential communications during court proceedings, Restitution and Compensation Orders, and Financial Assistance Scheme matters, and a range of ancillary legal matters in the criminal and/or civil law jurisdictions, including sexual harassment and discrimination law.
n
The position will work with our VLS partners and across VLA to ensure key service requirements are met, appropriate referrals are made and assist the sector to better meet victims' needs.

This role is based at our Melbourne CBD office on Wurundjeri Country
About you n
n
A current unrestricted Australian practising certificate which entitles you to practise in Victoria as a government legal practitioner.
n




Entitled to practise in federal courts and courts exercising federal jurisdiction (entry on the High Court's Register of Practitioners).
n
LIV Accredited Specialisation or equivalent further study or significant legal practice experience in victims of crime law.
n
Substantial knowledge and extensive experience in the practice of civil matters (particularly victims of crime matters), including strong advocacy experience, experience in high-volume practices and the preparation of complex litigation, particularly in victims of crime matters.
n
Substantial knowledge and extensive experience in providing client-centred, trauma-informed legal services.
n
Demonstrated ability to identify and provide strategic advice on legal and policy issues.
