Our Melbourne engineering team is growing, and we're looking for a Manufacturing Design Engineer who enjoys solving practical engineering challenges and improving the way products are manufactured.
About the Role n
This is a hands‐on engineering role where you'll work closely with our Engineering, Design and Manufacturing teams to improve fabrication processes and introduce smarter, more efficient manufacturing solutions.
n
You'll have a particular focus on Design for Manufacture (DFM), robotic welding, jigs and fixtures, helping us improve efficiency, quality and repeatability across our manufacturing operations.
n
From analysing an existing process and identifying an prospect for improvement, through to designing a fixture and seeing it implemented on the factory floor — you'll have the opportunity to make a real impact.
Key Responsibilities: n
n
Analyse fabrication processes and identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and productivity
n
Develop and implement Design for Manufacture (DFM) improvements, particularly for robotic welding applications
n
Design and develop welding jigs, fixtures and tooling, including automated and pneumatic clamping systems
n
Design sheet metal and machined steel components for manufacturing applications
n
Develop work instructions, SOPs and process documentation
n




Conduct process mapping, time studies and root cause analysis
n
Support the commissioning, troubleshooting and optimisation of robotic welding systems
n
Work closely with Engineering, Design and Manufacturing teams to develop practical production solutions
n
Identify opportunities to reduce costs, waste and manufacturing time
n
Investigate manufacturing issues and support Non‐Conformance Reports (NCRs)
n
About You n
n
A degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Mechatronic Engineering or a similar discipline
n
Engineering experience within a manufacturing or fabrication environment
n
Strong design capability across sheet metal and machined steel components
n
Experience designing welding jigs, fixtures or tooling
n
A good understanding of welding processes, particularly MIG welding, weld sequencing and distortion control
n
Experience with process improvement, time studies or root cause analysis
n
Strong problem‐solving and analytical skills
n
The ability to work collaboratively across Engineering, Manufacturing and Production
n
Experience with robotic welding, automation or pneumatic systems will be highly regarded.
