Job Description

We are seeking an experienced ODM Designer with proven Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU/CMDU) design capability to prepare compliant, constructible NBN fibre designs and support delivery from prescope through final design and as-built updates.
Key Responsibilities: n
n
Prepare and deliver ODM designs for NBN fibre programs, with a strong focus on MDU and Complex MDU work orders.
n
Review scope comments, planning inputs, field survey packs, existing network information, boundaries, addresses, photos and design artefacts before commencing design.
n
Complete prescope, preliminary, initial, detailed and final design activities, including HLD/PDD, construction plans and as-built updates as required.
n
Design internal and external MDU fibre pathways from the street network and building entry point through to end-user premises, considering constructability and building constraints.
n
Prepare and update CAD drawings, spatial designs, single-line diagrams, trace reports, cable routes, equipment layouts, lead-ins, BOM/BOQ and supporting design packs.
n
Validate existing network and inventory information, identify clashes, capacity constraints, blockages or missing inputs, and raise clear RFIs or design queries.
n
Incorporate field redlines, approved design variations and client feedback into final construction and as-built documentation.
n
Perform self-checks and support peer review, QC and QA to ensure designs meet NBN standards, client work instructions and right-first-time quality expectations.
n
Coordinate with survey, land access/body corporate, construction, offshore delivery,



QA and client teams to resolve technical and delivery issues.
n
Maintain accurate records and deliver work within agreed quality, productivity and turnaround targets.

What We're Looking For: n
n
Mandatory:
Demonstrated hands-on MDU/CMDU design experience within NBN or a comparable Australian fibre network setting.
n
Practical ODM design experience across relevant work types such as SD1, SD2, BDM, BAT, HOS and/or CMDU.
n
Strong understanding of FTTx/FTTP, OSP fibre architecture, pit-and-pipe networks, building entry pathways, risers, internal distribution and end-user lead-ins.
n
Hands-on capability with AutoCAD and GIS/spatial design tools. Experience with QGIS, MapInfo and/or SpatialNet is highly desirable.
n
Ability to interpret survey drawings, redlines, floor plans, maps, photos, network extracts, utility information and construction constraints.
n
Experience preparing design deliverables such as HLD/PDD packs, CAD/PDF drawings, SLDs, trace reports, BOM/BOQ, construction packs and as-builts.
n
Working knowledge of NBN design standards, quality controls, design validation and client-specific work instructions.
n
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to identify design risks, raise concise RFIs and provide practical, constructible solutions.
n
Good written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail and the ability to work independently within a collaborative delivery team.
n
Previous experience with an NBN delivery partner, Tier 1 contractor or telecommunications engineering consultancy is highly desirable.
