Your recent role:

As a Lactation Consultant Clinical Nurse/Midwife, you will provide advanced specialist care and clinical leadership for women experiencing complex lactation needs, working autonomously as an integral member of the healthcare team. You will:

- Provide expert assessment, care planning, coordination and management of women with complex lactation needs, delivering safe, compassionate and person-centred care.
- Provide clinical leadership across professional practice, education and research, while supporting the healthcare team through advanced clinical decision-making, critical thinking and problem-solving.
- Lead and contribute to breastfeeding education and training for staff, clinical facilitation, quality improvement initiatives, audits and evidence-based practice.
- Support the ongoing maintenance of BFHI standards, including relevant education, databases, reporting and specialist clinical practices.

About you:

You are an experienced Registered Nurse with advanced specialist knowledge in lactation practice who can combine clinical expertise with strong leadership, education and collaborative skills. You have:

- Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills and competence in lactation practice and theory, including the assessment, planning and evaluation of complex care.
- Strong clinical leadership, critical thinking, problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to work autonomously and effectively collaborate with the multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- A commitment to contemporary, evidence-based practice, professional development, quality improvement, research and the education and development of others.
- Demonstrated experience in managing lactation-specific patient care and achieving specialist standards and key performance indicators associated with BFHI.

Unit Profile

The women and birthing service at Redland Hospital consists of a 16-bed antenatal and postnatal inpatient ward with a home visiting service; a seven-bed birthing suite with three birthing pools for water immersion and birth, a four-bed maternity assessment unit and antenatal OPD. The service is supported by a 10-bed special care nursery.

The inpatient service aims to provide evidenced-based midwifery care and early parenting education to the women and their families who birth at Redland Hospital. The midwives provide care, in partnership with the women, recognising their individual needs and care requirements. Redland Hospital is a Baby Friendly Health Initiative (BFHI) accredited service and strives to provide women and their families with contemporary midwifery care. Redland women and birthing service has approximately 2000 births a year (or 160/month).
