1st Class Welder – Heat Exchanger Manufacturing

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced 1st Class Welder to join our Perth engineering team in our Canning Vale premise. The successful candidate will be responsible for high-quality welding and fabrication of heat exchangers, pressure equipment, and associated components in accordance with engineering drawings, approved welding procedures, project specifications, and Australian Standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Perform high-quality MIG, TIG, and FCAW welding as required.
- Weld heat exchanger components including shells, tube sheets, channels, nozzles, supports, and associated pressure-retaining components.
- Read and accurately interpret engineering drawings, weld maps, fabrication drawings, and welding procedures.
- Prepare, fit, align, and weld components to required tolerances.
- Weld carbon steel, stainless steel, and other materials as required by project specifications.
- Carry out welding in various positions and on varying material thicknesses.
- Complete weld preparation, grinding, gouging, cleaning, and finishing as required.
- Follow approved WPS/PQR requirements and maintain correct welding parameters.
- Ensure welds meet required quality standards and project specifications.
- Work closely with boilermakers, fitters, supervisors, and quality personnel to achieve production targets.
- Identify and report welding defects, dimensional issues, or non-conformances.
- Assist with weld inspections, NDT requirements, pressure testing, and final inspection activities.
- Maintain welding equipment, tools, and consumables in good working condition.
- Complete production and quality documentation accurately.
- Maintain a clean and safe work environment and comply with all WHS requirements.

Quality & Compliance The successful candidate will be expected to maintain a high standard of workmanship and understand the importance of quality in the manufacture of pressure-containing equipment. Work must be completed in accordance with applicable Australian Standards, ASME requirements, approved welding procedures,



client specifications, and company quality systems .

Essential Requirements

- Must be a Permanent Australian Resident
- Trade qualification as a Boilermaker/Welder or equivalent .
- Must have Forklift Licence
- Proven experience in welding and fabrication, preferably within heat exchanger, pressure vessel, or heavy fabrication manufacturing .
- Ability to read and interpret detailed engineering and fabrication drawings.
- Strong TIG/MIG/FCAW welding skills.
- Experience welding pressure-retaining components is highly desirable.
- Understanding of weld procedures, weld symbols, preheat/interpass temperatures, and consumable control.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Ability to work safely and efficiently with minimal supervision.

Desirable Experience

- Heat exchanger or pressure vessel manufacturing.
- Tube sheet and shell fabrication.
- Stainless steel and exotic alloy welding.
- ASME Section IX / Australian pressure equipment requirements.
- Experience working to AS 1210 or related pressure equipment standards.
- Experience with radiographic, ultrasonic, magnetic particle, or dye penetrant inspection requirements.
- Experience working in a quality-controlled manufacturing environment.
