We’re hiring an Accountant to take ownership of the end-to-end finance function of SolarQuotes. You’ll own our Xero file, accounts payable and receivable, payroll and month-end. You’ll be supported by an experienced Finance Manager within Origin, and report to the General Manager of SolarQuotes.

SolarQuotes connects Australian homeowners with vetted installers of solar, batteries, EV chargers and hot water heat pumps. Homeowners come to us for independent information and quotes they can trust. Installers work with us because we send them customers who are ready to buy. We’re part of Origin Energy, which means we run day-to-day as a small business but report with the discipline of a listed group. You get the autonomy of a team our size and the structure, support and career path of a large organisation.

What you’re walking into

This work is currently spread across a few part-time people. We’re consolidating it into one full-time role so that one person owns it end-to-end, has the full picture, and can improve it. The function itself is small, clean, and well-run. A good share of our clients pay by direct debit, and clients who don’t pay stop receiving leads, so collections are rarely a fight. Debtor days have been sitting around three. Invoicing is largely automated. Month-end isn’t a big job, but it has to be done on time, because Origin's reporting depends on it.

You’re inheriting something that works, and the job is to keep it working and then make it better.

What you’ll do

- Own the finance function end-to-end, including our Xero file, our financial records and the accuracy of our reporting. Origin's finance team has access to our Xero file, so accuracy is visible and immediate.
- Run accounts receivable and accounts payable: invoicing, direct debit runs, collections, payment runs and supplier relationships.
- Deliver payroll end-to-end, including superannuation, payroll tax, leave and compliance.
- Prepare month-end accounts, reconciliations, management reporting and group reporting submissions on time every month. Statutory tax lodgements sit with Origin, and you process the payment once they advise the amount.
- Improve and automate our finance processes. We have modern systems and a low tolerance for manual work.
- Work within our financial controls, and take on more of them as you establish yourself.
- Contribute to budgeting, cash flow forecasting and analysis, and to the development of the finance function, with a pathway towards Financial Controller.
- Pick up a small share of general admin, such as checking the mail and helping onboard new staff.

What we’re looking for

Essential:
- An accounting degree.
- Two or more years in hands-on finance or accounting roles.
- Strong Xero skills.



You should be able to fix a Xero problem, not just report one.
- Australian payroll experience, including superannuation and payroll tax.
- Experience with month-end close and balance sheet reconciliations, and a record of meeting deadlines other people depend on.
- Sound working knowledge of GST and BAS.
- Confident with spreadsheets and financial reporting.
- Discreet with confidential information.
- Able to explain finance clearly to people who don’t work in finance.

Well regarded:
- CA or CPA qualified, or working towards it. We’ll support your study.
- Experience in a subsidiary or multi-entity group reporting environment.
- Experience with finance automation tools such as Budgetly, Dext or Hubdoc.
- Experience in a technology or service business.
- A track record of removing manual work through better processes or better systems.
