APS5-6 Technical Writer - Public Health

Location: Canberra, ACT - flexible location may be considered

Contract: ASAP till 30 Jun 2027

Pay: $72.37 p/h including super (negotiable)

Work type: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week

Work arrangement: Flexible/hybrid, with specific arrangements agreed with your supervisor on a case-by-case basis

Clearance: Baseline clearance

About the Role

Our Federal Government client is updating national public health guidance used by public health units.

You will support a senior technical writer across evidence reviews, guideline drafting, stakeholder input and document control. You will also coordinate expert working groups and help move draft guidance through review and endorsement.

What You'll Be Doing

- Research best practice through literature reviews and background research
- Draft, edit and format public health guidance using established templates
- Turn complex evidence into clear, accurate and accessible content
- Coordinate expert working group meetings, agendas, minutes and actions
- Prepare meeting papers and follow-up communications
- Collate feedback from subject matter experts and stakeholders
- Maintain consultation records, version control and document tracking




- Support committee review, discussion and endorsement of draft guidance
- Work with public health stakeholders to establish priorities

What You Bring (Essential Criteria)

- You've written or edited technical, policy or guideline material
- You can synthesise complex information into clear, plain-English content
- You've conducted literature reviews or evidence-based research
- You've coordinated working groups, committees or expert stakeholder processes
- You can manage stakeholder feedback through successive document revisions
- You're confident with document control and collaboration tools such as SharePoint and Teams

Nice to Have (Desirable Criteria)

- Familiarity with public health, health policy or clinical guidelines
- Experience with communicable disease or public health unit guidance
- Experience working with expert groups across government or multiple jurisdictions
