Project Coordinator / Junior Project Manager – Major Data Centre Project

Data centres are the most technically demanding and fastest-growing sector in the Australian construction market, and the people who cut their teeth on them will be in demand for years to come. This role puts you inside the project team on a major Sydney data centre, working on the mechanical package from within one of the country's most respected HVAC contractors.

About our client

Our client is one of Australia's leading mechanical services contractors, with a national footprint and a long track record delivering large-scale HVAC projects for Tier 1 builders.

They have proven data centre credentials alongside major work in healthcare, commercial, education, defence, hotels and high-rise residential, with contract values reaching well into the tens of millions.

The chance

You'll join the delivery team on a major data centre project, working alongside experienced Project Managers and Site Managers who have delivered mission-critical facilities before. You'll support the day-to-day running of the project while gaining hands-on exposure to the systems, standards and pace that data centre work demands: high-density cooling, redundancy requirements, rigorous commissioning and tight programme milestones.

This is an ideal step for someone with a trade or engineering background who has started moving into the project side and wants a clear pathway into project management, with data centre experience on their CV to back it up.

Key responsibilities

- Supporting the project team with documentation, administration and coordination across the mechanical package
- Preparing and managing RFIs, submittals, transmittals and document registers
- Assisting with procurement,



raising purchase orders and tracking long-lead equipment and deliveries
- Coordinating subcontractors and suppliers, and managing paperwork, SWMS and compliance documentation
- Helping prepare progress claims, variations and cost tracking
- Attending site and project meetings, taking minutes and following up on actions
- Assisting with quality assurance, ITPs, commissioning records and handover documentation, a critical part of any data centre delivery
- Liaising with the builder, consultants and internal teams (engineering, drafting, prefabrication)

About you

- Construction industry experience is essential
- Experience with an HVAC or mechanical services contractor is essential
- A trade background (e.g. refrigeration/air conditioning, sheet metal, pipefitting) or mechanical engineering qualification is highly regarded
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage paperwork on a large, fast-moving project
- Confident communicator who can deal with site teams, builders and suppliers
- Proficient with MS Office; exposure to Aconex, Procore or similar is a bonus
- Previous data centre or mission-critical exposure is a plus, but not essential. This is the role to get it
- White Card and a current driver's licence
